Seasons 2024/25 23/24 22/23

Season 2024 / 2025 President's report.

Eight years ago our club received a new lease of life with the resurfacing of the four playing courts and the gradual replacement of wire netting. Next year with the courts once again being updated and resurfaced, ensures our club can provide decent facilities and playing courts for the Traralgon community and also provide practice courts for any major tournaments held in this area. Some of the club members back then are still, or now, serving on the current committee and I would like to thank them for their dedication and commitment over this period to ensure this tennis club is still around for a long time to come.

Our club was represented in the LVTA junior competition this season with a total of ten teams in six of the nine junior sections on offer. After an amazing season of hard fought matches, eight of our teams made the semi finals, with four teams from section three, seven and eight progressing through to the grand finals, which is a great result for our club. Well done to Danielle, Will and Zeerus section three premiers and Spencer, Mehreen, Archer and Ashton section eight premiers. Bad luck and all the best for next season to our runners up in section seven Ethan, Cameron, Ari, Oscar and section eight Ambrose, Issy, Phoebe and Winter.

The senior LVTA competition played on a Saturday afternoon was divided into two sections of four teams with each playing six sets of doubles. With the addition of quite a few new junior faces our club was able to enter a team in section one and two teams in section two. Section one team had a great competitive season finishing on top of the ladder and easily accounted for Churchill in the grand final winning all six sets. Victorious players were Scotty, Matt, Ashley and Mitch. Section two teams finished the season in third and fourth places but were not strong enough to win their respective semi finals. There was no doubt that the younger players certainly enjoyed the more challenging matchplay and were wiser for the experience gained. Hopefully all are looking forward to the next senior season.

As always a big thank you to all committee members, especially Simone for her fund raising efforts throughout the season and to Scotty for looking after the Saturday morning home junior matches. Also thanks to Sally & Glen Kirstine Tennis Academy, Scotty and assistant coaches for their ongoing dedication to our junior players through weekly clinics during the year. These clinics are the main feed in point for the clubs new section nine first year players / junior players in general and without these new players our club membership would be dwindling.

Our club is now part of Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme, with members now able to donate the funds of their returned eligible containers directly to the club. As at this meeting we have approx $15.00 in donations. The club is looking forward to a successful 2025/2026 season, with the promise of the court resurfacing to be done before the second half of the season.

Season 2023 / 2024 President's report.

As another rewarding season for our small but passionate tennis club draws to a close, I would once again like to thank our dedicated committee for all their efforts throughout the season in running the club as well as ensuring the club progresses forward for the next season.

Welcome to our new treasurer Denice Mildenhall for taking over this important position left vacant when our long serving committee member Bev Pead retired at the end of last season.

Special mention needs to be made of the fund raising efforts of our secretary Simone Wallace, who over the past two years has worked tirelesssly organising numerous Bunnings bbqs, Easter and Christmas raffles, hot cross bun drives, the cooking of Saturday morning food, as well as drink and snack sales. The funds raised, well in excess of $1000 per season, helps cover the ever increasing costs of running the club. Well done Simone.

Our club was represented in the Latrobe Valley Tennis Associations junior competition this season with a total of eight teams in six of the nine junior sections. By the seasons end three of our teams made the semi finals, with sections four red team and section nine red team progressing through to the grand finals, which is a great result for our club. Well done to Danielle, Will and Zeerus section four premiers and Ambrose, Rachel, Isabelle, Phoebe and Mehreen section nine runners up from this years LVTA season.

A big thank you to Scotty Mildenhall for once again looking after the Saturday morning junior competition for the home teams playing at the club, ensuring things ran as smoothly as possible, especially in the chaotic opening few rounds of the season, with new players and teams playing competition for the first time.

Our seniors were divided into two sections with one group playing in the Riverside TA Section two singles competition, while the other group played in the LVTA doubles competition. The Riverside team had a great competitive season finishing second from six teams to earn the double chance, but disappointingly failed to make the grand final. The LVTA team found the going a lot tougher finishing the season sixth from six teams.

As always a big thank you to Sally & Glen Kirstine Tennis Academy, Scotty Mildenhall and assistant coaches for their ongoing dedication to our junior players through weekly clinics, as these players progress through the ranks in representing our club in the LVTA and hopefully onto playing in the senior comps. Also thanks Sally for all your work in organising the LVTA junior competition and various tournaments throughout the season.

The club is looking forward to a successful 2024/2025 season both on and off the court and will certainly be relieved that after eight years, to have finally paid off the $20,000 council loan for the top and bottom court resurfacing. Now with the bottom courts needing to be resurfaced again, the club has successfully been allocated a LCC major capital works grant, so we eagerly await to work with council on the commencement of this vital court maintenance.

Season 2022 / 2023 President's report.

As another highly successful season for our small but passionate tennis club draws to a close, I would once again like to thank our dedicated committee for all their efforts throughout the season in ensuring the club progresses forward for the next season.

Our current and past committees would like to pay tribute and express our appreciation to our current treasurer Beverly Pead for her significant contribution to the club over a long period of service. Over a period of almost ten years Bev has served the club starting with the role of secretary then moving on to registrations, uniforms and treasurer. With her family no longer playing tennis, Bev will retire from all committee duties at the end of the season and plans a move to Queensland in the near future. We wish Bev all the best on her retirement from tennis.

The committee would also like to acknowledge Tanya Graham for her fund raising efforts and contribution to the club over the past six months.

Our club was strongly represented in the Latrobe Valley Tennis Associations junior competition this season with a total of eleven teams in all of the nine junior sections. In an amazing effort ten of our teams made the semi finals, with sections four, five, six, eight & nine progressing through to the grand final, which is a great result for our club. Well done to Danielle, Will and Jack of section six and Annika, Grace, Paygen -Lily and Spencer of section eight on becoming LVTA junior premiers this season.

A big thank you to Scotty Mildenhall for once again looking after the Saturday morning junior competition for the home teams playing at the club. Scotty did his best to ensure things ran as smoothly as possible during the day, especially in the chaotic opening few rounds of the season, with new teams, players and parents finding their way.

Also a big thank you to Sally & Glen Kirstine Tennis Academy and assistant coaches for their ongoing dedication to our junior players through weekly clinics, as these players progress through the ranks in representing our club in the LVTA.

With our senior players, our singles combination of Scotty Mildenhall and Matt Stringer playing in team Rosewall are to be congratulated for winning a tightly fought LVTA senior grand final by one set.

The club is looking forward to a successful 2023/2024 season both on and off the court and will certainly be relieved that after eight years, to have finally paid off the council loan for the court resurfacing by the end of 2024.
