Oakleigh Tennis Club wins WDTA's Premier Club Award for Summer 2024-25

At the Waverley District Tennis Association’s match convenor’s meeting on April 29, Oakleigh Tennis Club was awarded the WDTA Premier Club Award for Summer 2024-25.

This award is for the club whose teams had the highest average ladder position at the end of the home-and-away season.  It includes Saturday and Sunday Junior teams and Saturday senior teams.

Oakleigh had 20 junior teams and 6 senior teams playing Summer competition, with an average ladder position of 3.37692, finishing above the other 38 clubs, as the below table of the top 10 positions shows. After Round 13, we were in second place, but a strong final round moved us to the top of the ladder.

This award is one that EVERY player in EVERY team should celebrate (no matter if you played every game, a few games, or as an emergency), because regardless of whether your team ended up first on the ladder, in the top four, or missed the finals, THE EFFORTS OF ALL TEAMS CONTRIBUTED towards the club’s resultant average ladder position that won us this award.

It reinforces the fact that no matter how your team is going in a season, doing your best to win every point, game, set, rubber and match can have a real impact, as winning this award (after being in second place with one round to go) has shown!

Our congratulations go to all the players, coaches, venue supervisors, team captains and parents for your part in helping Oakleigh Tennis Club win this award - for the first time in our 146-year history.

To celebrate this amazing achievement, the club is planning a special social event, where we can get together, celebrate this victory and get a whole-of-club photo with the award.  More details about this will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
