Please see some of the current and new roles that we need your help with to keep Oakleigh Tennis Club running smoothly into the future.

We are always looking for volunteers to help share the work load, so please read the descriptions instructions, and if you think you can help, please contact us.

Brief Descriptions of Volunteer Roles

COMMITTEE MEETING ASSISTANCE:

  • MINUTE SECRETARY – to take minutes of committee meetings, distribute them to committee members and post them on our website.
  • ASSISTANT TREASURER – to help our Treasurer (who would greatly appreciate the help of an accountant or trained book-keeper who is also proficient with Microsoft Excel).

 

CLUB-BASED TASKS:

  • COURT MAINTENANCE TEAM - scheduling / overseeing court grooming, rubbish removal, improvement of fixtures etc. to keep the courts in the best possible condition and work with Monash Council to resolve any issues that we cannot fix ourselves.
  • COURT DEBRIS REMOVAL TEAM – to remove all tree debris (branches, leaves, sticks, gum nuts etc) and other items from the courts that will cause damage to the artificial grass.
  • COURT SURROUNDS MAINTENANCE TEAM – to ensure the court and pavilion surrounds are kept neat, clean and clear of rubbish.  The occasional mowing of the grassed area could also be part of this role.
  • MOSS PATROL TEAM – to document (photos & locations) all the moss growing on the artificial grass surface for handover to the maintenance team to ensure it is treated effectively.  
  • CLUBHOUSE MAINTENANCE TEAM - setting up the new kitchen, setting up cleaning rosters, complying with licence requirements.
  • KITCHEN SUPPLIES MANAGERS – to ensure our kitchen is well stocked with the essentials.
  • SECURITY TEAM – regular checks on courts, fences, locks, pavilion for damage or graffiti, reporting issues, recommending repairs & working with Monash Council to resolve any issues that we cannot fix ourselves.
  • STORAGE AREA MAINTENANCE TEAM – to help organise the storage area and make everything easy to find.
  • RECYCLING INITIATIVES TEAM – to investigate the new initiatives that are now available for the recycling of club-related items (such as tennis balls and sport shoes), to recommend which of these projects we could become involved with and run these projects at the club.

 

DO-ANYWHERE COMPUTER-BASED TASKS:
 

  • INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALISTS – to assist in all I.T. issues that affect the club, such as setting up our office with a new computer & peripherals / internet / wi-fi / connection to on-court speakers, installation of our big TV in the pavilion, digital honours boards etc.
  • WEBSITE CONTENT SPECIALISTS – to ensure our website is up to date, either by updating the website themselves or by getting the responsible person to provide content to be included.
  • WEBSITE CONTENT CHECKERS – to read the carious pages on our website, check content, ensure our website is up to date, either by updating the website themselves or by getting the responsible person to provide content to be included.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM – to manage our social media and post items of interest to these forums (e.g. Facebook).
  • INTERNET RESEARCHERS – Tennis Victoria’s website has many pages with many different topics to help clubs run better.  You would read these pages, and advise the committee of your findings, make recommendations as to what we could use and (if you wanted) manage their implementation.  You could also look at other club websites (tennis and other sports) to see if there are things we could adopt at our club, too.
  • MEMBERSHIP VERIFIERS / APPROVERS - to verify membership payments and approve memberships.
  • MEMBERSHIP / WELCOMING OFFICERS - to answer queries about memberships from prospective or new members.
  • GRANT APPLICATIONS TEAM – to sign up for grant availability alert emails, recommending grants for the club to apply for and (if you like) managing these applications.
  • SPONSORSHIP TEAM – to help secure sponsorships for each of our 8 tennis courts to help ensure our long-term financial stability.
  • Any other areas that YOU think can make the club a better place to play tennis and socialise.
