Lauren Anderson (She/Her)

Hi! I’m Lauren. Unlike a lot of people in the club I was actually born and grew up here.

I struggled with an immune deficiency my whole life, which got progressively worse up until the age of 19, when they told me I need a bone marrow transplant. So I went to Melbourne for 4 months, had heaps of chemo and got a brand new immune system. A few months later we found out it didn’t work and that I’d need another one. After loads more chemo, steroids and immuno suppressants it finally worked.

After all that trauma and being inactive for so many years I really wanted to start a sport. I really wanted to find somewhere that was really welcoming and to not only be active, but make really meaningful relationships. That’s when my best friend, Sam, who i’ve been friends with for 20 years, suggested that we come along to try Hobart Out Tennis and meet other queer people. And now we’re treasurer and secretary!
