Introduction

Welcome to Hobart Out Tennis! Here at Hobart Out Tennis (HOT), we organise tennis socials and events around Tasmania. Whilst we primarily organise these activities for the LGBTQIA+ community,  everyone is welcome.  We aim to provide a safe and inclusive space where players can be themselves while enjoying a fun game of tennis. To help provide this fun and respectful environment we champion Tennis Australia's guidelines for tennis etiquette available here: Etiquette | Rules and Scoring | Learn | Tennis Australia. We utilise the code of conduct from Tennis Australia for competitions, available here: Regulations and Code of Behaviour | Competitive Play | Tennis Australia. Finally, we are affiliated with Tennis Tasmania, abide by Tennis Australia national policies, and assist with advice on important documents within this sport, such as the recently released Transgender Inclusion Guidelines for Community Tennis. We run weekly social play every Tuesday at the Domain Tennis Centre from 17:30 to 19:30. Go to our Social Tennis page for more details. The Domain Tennis Centre is located at 2 Davies Ave, Queens Domain, Hobart. We also hold three annual events, with information provided on the Tournaments page.

CLUB NEWS

One of our founding members Brendon Oliver-Ewen has won the Volunteer Achievement Award at Tennis Australia's Newcombe Awards night 2023!

This is great recognition for Brendon, who has contributed immeasurably to the Club. His long list of contributions include helping set up our Constitution, all round GLTA and Compass tournament organisation and help, secretarial duties, raising awareness of the club and LGBTQIA+ community through media engagement, raising much-needed funds, organising merchandise, goody bag and raffle prizes, getting community organisations involved, getting a sport minister to open our compass competition, just to name a few. However, his biggest contribution is his connection to each and every member of our club and others. He has an innate ability to almost instantly create rapport with people, bringing the best out of them.

And his speech  was simply inspirational and you can watch it on our Facebook page or via Youtube link here! In front of titans of the Australian tennis world and other business and community leaders, Brendon spoke not only of his proudest moments with the club, but also shared some hard hitting truths and difficulties faced by our LGBTQIA+ community and how diversity and inclusion is so vital to us. Many people came up to him to congratulate him and commend him on such a moving speech! Even the big man himself John Newcombe stopped to shake his hand and praised him on a hard but important speech.

The HOTTIEs, the Tasmanian tennis community and wider LGBTQIA+ community is a much better space with Brendon in it!

Congratulations again!
