Risk Management
Oakleigh Tennis Club's risk management is covered in 4 ways.
1) Risk Management Plan
Our Tennis Coaches from the Victorian Tennis Academy (VTA) are at the club on a daily basis in their official capacities as coaches (week-days and week-ends) and as junior match convenors (on Saturdays and Sundays).

Apart from the sections within this plan that are specifically related to the coaches, this plan serves as our Risk Management Plan for all general issues.

2) Safety Officer
Oakleigh Tennis Club's Safety Officer, Vikki Mount, is at the club 3 to 4 times each week, aiding in the supervision of our social tennis groups. She performs regular safety checks and reports any issues to the committee, Monash Council or whoever needs to know in order to rectify these issues.
Our clubhouse cleaning staff also report back to our Safety Officer and the committee if any issues are identified within the areas of the clubhouse that we have access to and are responsible for.
Some of the issues that have been identified and reported by Vikki, along with Monash Council Reference Numbers where applicable, are as follows:
Issues identified in the tennis court enclosures (Oakleigh Tennis Club's leased area):
- 971465 Gate between courts 1 & 2 not shutting properly
- OTC fix Gate between 4 & 5 a swing hazard on windy days installed automatic shut spring
- OTC fix Gate between 7 & 8 a swing hazard on windy days installed automatic shut spring
- OTC fix Slip hazard issues due to rainy days – 2 x very expensive roller moppers purchased
- OTC fix Collision hazard - players traversing from single Book-A-court gate to booked court - second Book-A-Court gate being installed.
Issues identified in the clubhouse (Oakleigh Tennis Club's licenced* area):
NOTE: licenced* area means our agreement with council for the use of the clubhouse is a licence, not a lease. The clubhouse and courts are not licenced areas for the consumption of alcohol.
- 867196 Hygiene issue - public toilets in need of cleaning.
- 869940 Hygiene issue - public toilets in need of cleaning.

- OTC fix Fall Hazard - changing batteries on wall clocks - Safety step ladder purchased.
Issues identified outside the clubhouse and tennis courts (Monash Council's responsibility):
- Reported Accessibility issue - main concrete pathway not wide enough for wheelchair access (does mot meet safety standards) - path widened.
- Reported Accessibility issue - no simple wheelchair access from tennis courts to Drummond Street.
- 1146454 Accessibility issue - wheelchair / walkway access required to the west on the clubhouse.
- 935770 Dangerous (sharp) items injury hazard - broken glass and rubbish on HotShots courts.
- 878120 Dangerous (sharp) items injury hazard - broken glass on Caloola pathway.
- 904914 Driveway damage (following car fire) – uneven surface
- 1146467 Fall hazard - 1 metre drop with no safety barrier on pathway bordering south side of HotShots / basketball court are - reported after a toddler near ly fell over the edge.
- 953365 Cleanliness issue - stolen rubbish bin, resulting in rubbish lying on the ground.
- 1013734 Tree branch falling hazard – branch fell near court 2 narrowly missing a child – tree eventually removed.
- 1082923 Tree branch falling hazard - many branches dropped in February 2024 storm - tree eventually removed.
- 1014046 Tree branch falling hazard – tree eventually removed.
- 1126909 Trip hazard - overgrown bushes near pathway - reported after senior member fell as a result – bushes trimmed.
- 1146458 Trip hazard - overgrown bushes near pathway.
- 964789 Trip hazard - uneven paving next to pathway.
3) Quarterly court maintenance
Oakleigh Tennis Club has the courts professionally groomed and maintained every 3 months. We feceive a full report after each service which details all the work undertaken, and also identifies any safety issues with the court surface,
4) All Club Members
Risk management is a whole-of-club repsonsibility, so all club members, parents of juniors and all visitors to the club are requested to report anything that that they believe could pose a risk to the safety of anyone within the courts, clubrooms or adjoining outside areas.
We rely on this feedback to keep our club safe for all users.
