The Working Bee that was held at the club on Saturday 30 April proved to be a great success.
Eleven enthusiastic members turned up with their trimming equipment and quickly went to work on the cotoneasters which were growing at the southern end of the club. Everyone worked feverously and finally the trimming was completed, and loads of cuttings were collected and were sent off to the tip.
It was a fantastic effort and a great achievement with the cotoneasters now neatly trimmed and well clear of the courts. The hard work was followed by a well-earned barbeque and drinks. It was a great opportunity for members to get together, enjoy each others company, and achieve a great result. A big thank you to all those involved.
A special mention must go the Michelle Tifan who not only worked hard, but supplied her employer’s truck for the morning. This proved invaluable as the truck took two huge loads of cuttings to the tip. We were also very grateful for the generosity of Michelle’s employer, Brooks Marchant Industries, an electrical contracting and design company. Without their truck the time to complete the work would have been significantly longer and more taxing.
For those members who have at some time lost their tennis balls in the cotoneaster bushes, thirty-two old balls were found in the bushes. These are now with the canines at the RSPCA should any members want to get their balls back!
