Brisbane Open Rules 2024

General Summary of the Event Rules
Here are the rules and regulations for the Brisbane Open 2023 GLTA Master Series Tournament by Tecnifibre:
1. Create or find your GLTA ID number on Come Play with Us | GLTA.NET | GLTA world tour |
GLTA tennis
2. Please see the GLTA Rules that sets out the chart for description of divisions. It is the sole responsibility of each
individual player to enter the division most appropriate for his/her/their ability. Rule of
thumb: when in doubt about which division is most appropriate for you, enter the higher
division, not the lower one.
3. Seedings are based primarily on the most recent GLTA seeding points. Seeding points are
computed by the GLTA based on results from GLTA sanctioned tournaments. The final decision
on seedings will be at the discretion of the tournament director.
4. Register to enter by completing the online entry form and pay the entry fees. The registration
closes on the 1st July 2023 or when draws are full, whichever comes first.
5. Matches start on Friday 14th July at 7.15am. Court warm ups can begin at 7am. You will need
to book using the link that we include in the player pack. First in, first served.
6. The finals are scheduled for Sunday 16th July and are scheduled to be completed by 8 pm.
7. The courts are hardcourts (Queensland Tennis Centre - Tournaments, Coaching, Functions,
Court Hire)
8. The maximum size for a singles draw is 32 entries, with the exception of Division A & B Singles.
For doubles it is 16 teams.
The overall capacity for the tournament is 180 participants. When we reach this threshold of registered
participants, we will continue with a waiting list. When the waiting list is full, the registration
will close early.
9. All singles matches will be played using the MONRAD format : the best of 3 sets; 2 normal sets with a 10-point super tie-break tiebreak in the third.
A Monrad draw is similar to the Elimination draw format, but in Monrad all players continue to play until they get a final standing.
Depending on whether they win or lose, they automatically go to the next position in the draw, meaning each player will get an exact position in the Final Standings (not equal).
If you lose the first match you will be placed automatically in the consolation round.
If you don’t want to play the consolation round, please inform the tournament desk right after you lose the first match.
10. All doubles will be knock-out played the best of three sets, 2 normal sets with a 10-point super tie-break tiebreak in the third.
11. Consolation play will be offered to players who lose their first doubles match.
The Monrad Draw dictates how the next match is scheduled for both winners and losers of singles matches only.
Consolation match format will be 8 game pro-sets (first to 8 games wins), no-ad scoring, with 12-point tiebreakers at 7 games all.
Consolation finals will be best two out of three sets, with regular scoring, and 12-point tie-breakers played at 6 games all. Third set will be a 10-point super tie-breaker.
Since we want everyone to be able to play the maximum number of matches over three days, the tournament directors reserve the right to adjust match formats at any
time to deal with cancellations.
12. The tournament director reserves the right to cancel or combine events if there are not
enough entries in certain divisions.
13. Players may participate in a maximum of two events.
14. Warming up times are limited to 5 minutes.
15. Between matches a 30-minute break is allowed after a main draw singles match and a 15-
minute break after a doubles match or a consolation singles match.
16. Field officials are present to check balls, warming-up times, rest periods and to be of general
assistance.
17. Please report to the tournament desk 20 minutes prior to each match!
18. Late arrivals will incur a penalty in accordance with the GLTA rules starting from the moment
the match has been announced (and a court is available). It is your responsibility to manage
your time:
• Up to 5 minutes late: loss of toss and 1 game
• 5 to 10 minutes late means: loss of toss and 2 games
• 10 to 15 minutes late : loss of toss and 3 games
• More than 15 minutes late: default
19. All matches will be played with the sponsorship ball, Tecnifibre X-One. Balls must be returned to the officials.
20. Proper tennis attire is required when on court – shoes and clothing.
21. All matches will be played according to GLTA and the International Tennis Federation (ITF)
rules. By participating in the Brisbane Open, players agree with these tournament rules. The
tournament director reserves the right to modify match play if necessary due to weather or
scheduling delays.
22. Players must read and understand the GLTA rules to ensure they enter the proper division.
23. The tournament director has absolute discretion in determining whether a player is playing at
their proper level.
24. The tournament director reserves the right to pair players with similar skill levels for doubles
events if they do not nominate a partner prior to the close of entries.
25. Players will not be entered into the draw until full payment is received.
26. The tournament organisers will attempt to make consolation matches available for first-round
losers if court availability permits.
27. All players and guests must abide by the rules and regulations of the Queensland Tennis
Centre and always observe proper tennis attire.
28. The tournament directors reserve the right to remove any player or guest who is found to be
in breach of the rules and regulations or who engages in unsportsmanlike conduct.
29. All decisions made by the tournament director or organising committee are final and binding.
30. The tournament organisers are not responsible for any injury or loss of property incurred
during the tournament.
31. All players and guests are responsible for their own transportation to and from the venue.
32. The tournament organisers reserve the right to modify the schedule of events if necessary due
to weather or other factors.
33. In all main category events, Winner and Runner Up prizes are awarded.
For Mondrad Consolation Rounds, only the winners are awarded a prize.
34. Observe court etiquette and avoid disturbing other matches.
35. Players and guests must respect the diversity of all participants and refrain from any
discriminatory or offensive behaviour.
