Congratulations to TWO of Altona Tennis Club's members, Isai (Izzy) Torres and Richard Dodson, who were selected to represent Australia in the ITF World Championships Teams event in Turkey, March 2023.

Izzy will play in the Over 40's Australian Team while Richard will play in the Over 50's Australian Team.

Teams are made up of 3-4 players in each agegroup and played exactly the same way as Davis Cup/Fed Cup, effectively it is Davis Cup for agegroups, playing against around another 28 Nations in Group playoff's then a tiered finals draw. The majority of players representing their countries are ex-pro - meaning competition is of the highest level. Some players for some countries have even reached top 10 ATP level.

In 2022, Richard represented Australia for the 4th time in Florida USA, where the Australian 50's Team won the Bronze Medal - France finishing 1st, Germany 2nd, Chile 4th. Richard won an important Bronze medal playoff singles match in over 4 hours on the Green Clay (Har Tru) against Chile to set-up current 50's World number 1, Jarrod Broadbent for a 2-0 win (again in a 4 hour grind) rendering the Doubles a Dead-Rubber.

Richard achieved Wold Number 1 in Over 50's Mixed Doubles and retained the rank end of year to current, he also achieved a rank of World Number 5 in Men's Doubles. Achievements in 2022 included winning the Oceania over 40's doubles title and the Australian over 40's and Over 50's mixed Doubles titles amongst some State level titles.

Izzy is a more recent entrant in the ITF Masters Tour events but has already won the Victorian State Championships Over 40's singles and Runner-Up NSW Championships Doubles (with Richard)
