This year, alongside some spirited competition, we’re putting the focus on:

  • appreciating the person on the other side of the net
  • competing with heart and good humour
  • being a great member of our club community.

This is a celebration of tennis and community. Sure, the rallies might be fierce—but the vibe should always be friendly. There’s no prize money on the line, just some solid street cred and club bragging rights. So go easy on yourself and be generous with others.

A few reminders to keep the spirit of the event fun and respectful:

  • Don’t know your opponent? Introduce yourself, shake hands, high five, or throw in a friendly wave.
  • Do know them? Still say hi—good habits apply to everyone.
  • Before the match, wish your opponent a good game.
  • During play, call out the score clearly—good communication makes for a better match.
  • Accidentally hit someone with the ball? Check they’re okay and offer a quick apology. It happens, and thankfully tennis balls aren’t too punishing!
  • After the match, a simple “Thanks for the game, good luck in your next one” goes a long way.

We’ve got a few club members with a flair for the dramatic, so if you want to add a bit of theatre to your match etiquette—go for it. We love it.

Most of all, we hope you meet someone new, play some great tennis, and maybe even find a new hitting partner.

Wishing you all a fun and enjoyable championship!
