Medical Emergency Response Plan for the Kew Tennis Club

 

The coach holds a Level II First Aid Certificate and is present for all coaching sessions at KTC.

The Club First Aid Officer (Jenny Jeffery 0447 543 547) holds a first aid, CPR and manual handling certificate.

KTC cannot guarantee that a first aider will be present at all tennis sessions.

A portable First Aid Kit is available in the kitchen of the clubhouse above the refrigerator as well as a defibrillator.

Incident Report Forms are with the First Aid Kit.

For Emergency Use, a membership list with members’ emergency contacts is located with the First Aid Kit.  Otherwise emergency contact information is online in the Tennis Victoria My Tennis membership system accessible to committee office holders.

There is no telephone at KTC.

 

In the event of injury or illness

  1. Provide immediate care of the injured or ill person.
  2. Ascertain if there is a qualified first aid person present to attend to the patient.
  3. Provide initial first aid.
  4. If immediate medical care is required call for an ambulance (phone 000).

Provide clear instructions for the ambulance including:

     Age and gender of patient

     Nature of injury or illness

Kew Tennis Club is located in Victoria Park in Adeney Avenue, Kew.  The entrance is opposite the intersection of Adeney Avenue and Argyle Road. Should an incident arise, do the following:

  1. Have someone open the gate and clubhouse door.
  2. Have someone wait for the ambulance and direct to the injured party and keep the driveway clear.
  3. Continue to provide support and first aid until ambulance arrives.
  4. Emergency contact to be notified of medical emergency, and in case of ambulance being called where patient transferred to.
  5. Incident Form to be completed and posted in wall safe, and KTC First Aid Officer notified of event.

 

Away Games

If an injury or medical emergency occurs at another site where a KTC team is playing, be guided by the home club medical emergency plan or follow the guidelines set out above.

Education and Policy Review

This policy will be displayed in the clubhouse, on the club website and issued to team captains, social tennis convenors and coaching staff.  The Club will appoint a First Aid Officer and pay for training for a Level II First Aid Certificate.

The incident reports will be kept by the Club’s First Aid Officer.

The duties of the Club First Aid Officer are

  1. Stock the First Aid Kit.
  2. Follow up on welfare of injured persons when reported.
  3. Report incidents to the committee for risk management.
  4. Undertake First Aid Training and provide First Aid if present when an incident occurs.
