Member Protection Policy

Our member protection guidelines and declaration are available for download.

Member Protection is all about practices and procedures which protect a sports organisation's members including athletes, administrators, coaches and officials.

In affiliating with Tennis Geelong, all members are required to comply with all policies and guidelines of Tennis Geelong, and by extension Tennis Australia

Tennis Australia's policy has been developed as part of their ongoing commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of its members and participants. Tennis Geelong and all affiliates have a responsibility to provide a child safe environment for members.

St Mary's Tennis Club is committed to ensuring all individuals involved in tennis can enjoy a safe and positive experience at all times.

The Member Protection Policy outlines a specific Code of Conduct, the procedural obligations of Australian Tennis Organisations and the policies surrounding Child Protection, Harassment, Abuse, Discrimination and Social Networking, as well as the complaints procedure.

The Tennis Australia Member Protection Policy is available here.

Using this as a guideline, St Mary's has provided further detail relevant to our members in our own Member Protection Policy available here.

As part of this policy, St Mary's Tennis Club Geelong has appointed its own Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO).

A Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) plays an important role within the club and more widely within the sport of tennis. They are appointed to act as the first point of contact for any enquiries, concerns or complaints for harassment, abuse and other inappropriate behaviour.

As part of the role, the MPIO provides general information and moral support to the person with the concern. The basic functions of an MPIO are to:

  • Listen and act as a sounding board
  • Clarify basic points and concerns
  • Refer to the Tennis Australia Safeguarding Children Code of Conduct and explain what constitutes inappropriate behaviour
  • Explain the complaint process and options available under the Tennis Australia Member Protection Policy
  • Monitor and follow-up the enquiry or complaint.

The club's MPIO is our President: Denise Sheean

Please direct any queries or concerns to Denise, in line with the above responsibilities of an MPIO
