Tennis Geelong Junior Pennant

The Junior Pennant Competition is held on Saturday mornings, it is a graded competition organised by Tennis Geelong. The competition runs for both Winter and Summer seasons each year. The junior competition is for players under the age of 18 years at October 1 for the Summer season and for the following Winter season.

The Summer season runs in conjunction with terms 4 and 1 of school term (October to March), and the Winter season runs in conjunction with terms 2 and 3 (May to August) of the school calendar, with breaks during school holidays and over the Christmas/holiday period.

Matches are played on Saturday mornings and usually start at 9:00am, although times may vary depending on teams entered. Matches are played at various clubs around the Geelong region, so travel is required.

All Tennis Geelong Competition Junior players must be current members.

If your child has not played tennis before and you are not sure what level they should be playing at we can help. We will discuss their experience and offer team training sessions as part of your membership to help build their confidence and skills for competition.

Junior format

The Junior Competition format consists of four player teams with single sex sections (four girls or four boys) playing first to six games (tie break at 6  games all for Sections 1 Boys and 1 Girls). For juniors not in section 1, tie breaks will be played at 5 games all.

The single sex teams play six sets comprising four singles and two doubles.

Green and Orange Ball Sections

Players in Green Ball Sections and Orange Ball Sections will be using either low compression green balls or even lower compression orange balls respectively. All other Junior Sections will use new regular approved balls.

These modified sections are for younger players and will have parent/guardian assistance allowing kids to learn how to play matches before progressing to regular junior formats. There are no tie breaks in Green Ball Sections.

Premier Sections

Premier Sections ensures there is something suitable for Performance players. Premier Sections are teams of 2 to 4 players, comprising of 2 best of 2 set singles and 1 first to 8 doubles rubber.

St Mary's currently does not have any teams in the Premier Sections.
