🎾What is SDTA & Tennis SA?

Our club is a member of SDTA (Southern Districts Tennis Association). We compete with other clubs of that association. They are located from Goodwood to McLaren Vale (inland, not along the coast). This association has some of the strongest clubs in SA and it is reflected in the quality of competition. Our club as well as SDTA is associated with Tennis SA.  Traditionally tennis was played in Summer and football in Winter. However Winter season is now becoming also popular as we play on hard surfaces, not grass.

Some Winter competitions are organised by Tennis SA and due to lower number of teams you might have to travel to other clubs outside of SDTA. You might be surprised that Winter competition is often stronger then Summer as those really devoted to tennis play whole year around. Therefore if you want to be ready for Summer season Winter season is recommended as a preparation for it! And you might also enjoy playing in cooler weather.

SDTA's Competition Committee creates the competition for the associated clubs before  each season's start. This usually takes few weeks and hence the need to  enrol for Summer Competition while the Winter Competition is finishing and vice versa.

As a rule of thumb every second weekend we compete in our club and every other week we play at the competitors' club. The competition is divided into the following categories:

  • Juniors - Orange Balls (age 8 - 10)
  • Juniors - Green Balls (age 10 - 12)
  • Juniors - standard yellow ball (under 18)
  • Seniors - standard yellow ball (age 18+)

Junior Premier League & Junior Div 1 plays on Friday evenings at 6:30pm. Juniors Div2 & lower start Saturday morning at 8:30am. The rest of the Junior divisions, Green & Orange Balls start at 10:45am.  Seniors compete at 1pm.
