Saturday 23 November 2024 - Round 7

On the a sweltering November's day (where 3 opposition sides decided the Summer heat was too strong for them) 3 teams played through the heat. Unfortunately all of the sides who braved out the conditions lost.

Tennis Victoria BRTA

Section 3 Maccabi 2-3-47 defeated by Mt Martha 4-6-55

Jordan Jaffe 8-3
Marty Schwartz 8-6
Aaron Kramer 4-8
Steven Kleytman 7-8
Jordan Jaffe/ Aaron Kramer 6-4 2-6 6-7
Marty Schwarz/Steven Kleytman 1-6 5-7

Whilst everyone else was suffering in 37 degrees, who would have thought a 1 hour drive up the peninsula to Mt Martha was a blessing in disguise as we were gifted with a max of 28 degrees.

In singles, Jordan played a very smart game, playing consistent tennis and keeping the ralleys long to break down his opponent and win 8-3. Marty played an opponent with one of the biggest forehands I’ve ever seen, but his defence and tactical game matched his opponent’s power, leading to a 8-6 win. Aaron played a very strong opponent and struggled to reach his absolute best, going down 8-4. Whilst Steve was in quite the battle - a match that was even throughout the entire game and had many long ralleys, but unfortunately ended in a 8-7 loss.

In the doubles, Jordan and Aaron’s doubles started very even but the aggressiveness and opportunities taken by Jordan and Aaron allowed them to break at 4-4 and take the first set 6-4. After also being up 2-0 in the 2nd, the level of the opponents increased and Jordan and Aaron went into their shell a bit, leading them to lose 6 games in a row and lose 6-2. Leading to a 3rd set tiebreak in which they went down 10-6.

For Marty and Steve, they didn’t start the best - going down 6-1 in the first set. But in the 2nd it was a much closer affair, reaching 5-5 in the 2nd set, but unfortunately couldn’t capitalise and resulted in a 7-5 loss in the 2nd set.

- Jordan Jaffe

Section 4 Maccabi 1-2-26 defeated by Kooyong 5-7-59

Steve Gostin 0-8
Saul Muscatel 3-8
Joel Rabinov 2-8
Lachie Zuker 4-8
Saul Muscatel/ Joel Rabinov 3-6 0-6
Steve Gostin/ Lachie Zuker 1-6 6-3 7-6

At home with 4 courts, we didn't know the heat that hit us with all 4 of us getting belted in singles.

Doubles was better: Joel hitting a few forehand winners against the Kooyong top 2. Unfortately kept losing the 30all points and key moments (let cords) going against Saul and Joel in a match that was closer than 3-6, 0-6.

As for Steve and Lachie, a tough opening set for the new pair (1-6). However they found their groove to take the 2nd set (6-3) and then the match tiebreaker.

Overall: A hot day: not our best day against a classy opposition who with that 4 would beat anyone, but we move onto next week for another home game.

- Joel Rabinov

Section 5 Maccabi heat Out against Chadstone

Section 6 Maccabi heat out against BLTC

Section 9 Maccabi heat out against Dendy Park

Section 10 Maccabi 1-2-33 defeated by Highmoor Uniting 6-5-57

Sebastian Raboy 6-8
Stephen Gorenstein 8-5
Ashley Raboy 2-8
Jacob Nathan 2-8
Sebastian Raboy/ Stephen Gorenstein 6-3 1-6 6-7
Stephen Kleid/ Jacob Nathan 1-6 1-6

Well, what can I say, sweltering 37 degree day, where we heard 2 x other teams didn't play because of the heat, but we were one of the teams that our opposition still wanted to play through this extreme heat.

For the doubles, we thought we would switch it up, Sebastian played with Stephen Gorenstein, 6-3, 1-6 and made it to a Super Tie-Break to just miss out 8-10.

Then we had Stephen Kleid play with Jacob Nathan, unfortunately unable to make strong enough headway, going down 1-6, 1-6.

Because of the extreme heat conditions, Ashley Raboy was asked to fill-in, same as opposition having a 5th player play too.

In the Singles, Sebastian Raboy had a tough tussle with a very tall opponent, going down, 6-8.

Stephen Gorenstein, was in fine form, and managed to take out his opponent 8-5👏

Ashley Raboy, even though stated our 'fresh' not having played the doubles, suffered in the extreme heat, going down to his opponent 2-8.

Jacob Nathan, also found it difficult in the extreme heat going down to his opponent 2-8.
