Daniel Brami
Evgeni Grishin 2-6
David Cropman 2-3

Washed out due to weather conditions.

Everyone was keen to play, and we at least managed to complete our doubles matches. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans. Let’s hope for better conditions next week for our away match against Burwood.

Grade 8 Section 3 Maccabi Green 1-3-27 defeated by Maccabi Blue 5-7-57

Nathan Rapoport/ Roman Maevsky defeated by Jonathan Lubetzky/ Ryan Behr 3-8
Joel Rabinov/ Miguel Donnenfeld defeated by Adam Needleman/Luka Federman 2-8
Nathan Rapoport defeated Jonathan Lubetzky 6-2 7-5
Joel Rabinov defeated by Ryan Behr 6-4 2-6 6-10
Roman Maevsky defeated by Adam Needleman 0-6 0-6
Miguel Donnenfeld defeated by Luka Federman 0-6 1-6

A very chaotic and messy day. 2 courts were too wet to play on (and given we had access to another club) the choice was made to drive to Caulfield to play.

Jonathon and Ryan played well for a 8-3 win against Nathan and Roman (too many errors).

Adam and Luka shot out of the blocks for a 7-0 lead, before Joel decided his warm up was over and started playing tennis by holding serve as well as breaking Adam's serve, before losing 2-8.

Young Luka continued his impressive day, beating Miguel 6-0, 6-1.

Adam could do no wrong against Roman (even his worst net approaches, good enough to win the point), dishing out a double bagel.

Nathan played well against Jonathon, who showed flashes of brilliance but was inconsistent. Nathan winning 6-2, 7-5 with this his best singles for the season (having been made to play higher up the order the last few weeks), winning at #1.

The match that everyone (well Marcus who was watching) wanted to see: the President vs Junior Co-Ordinator. The president got off to a real shocking start, perhaps some stage fright (2 double faults and 2 cheap errors to start off). Joel consolidated the break for 2-0. Holds of serve till a double fault gave it back to 3all, with Ryan holding serve for 4-3. Ryan then played another stinker of a game (allowing Joel to regain his groove) for 4all, before Joel put the foot down to close out the set 6-4. In the 2nd set: Ryan fought off break points to hold serve for 1-0. Joel got the break for 2-1: however the match changed at this moment. Ryan finally figured out how to play the windy conditions at both ends (and from here, Joel could barely win a point). Ryan closing out the set 6-2. Final tiebreaker: Ryan always having the slight edge, though it was 5all. Ryan then winning 4 points in a row before winning it 10-6.

Overall: A very messy and chaotic matchup. Adam's side getting exactly what they needed: a win to give them the best chance to make finals. For Joel's side, Nathan getting a win higher up the order, whilst Joel is starting to get closer to his normal way of playing (even if he butchered the match tiebreak, missing 4 regulations forehands along with a 2nd serve return on the forehand).

Grade 7 Section 4 Maccabi 3-5-49 defeated Mayfield Park 3-5-45

Damon Flicker/ Rob Minc 8-5
Geoff Rosenberger/ Steve Gostin 8-4
Geoff Rosenberger 1-6 3-6
Damon Flicker 3-6 4-6
Rob Minc 4-6 6-2 4-10
Steve Gostin 6-4 6-0

Tough win away firms our spot in the finals.

Both doubles pairings winning in what is proving to be our greatest strength.

To the singles and it was decided to give Rob a break at 1.

Geoff took the position but was completely outclassed and will need to learn from this.

Damon played against a strong server and that was the difference with only a couple service breaks separating the players.

So after leading 2 0 in the doubles, we found ourselves behind on sets.

Steve was on next and he showed great tenacity in the 1st set when the match was on the line.

Moving side to side displaying perfect footwork (a contrast to his opponent who was hard hitting but less nimble).

The 2nd set Steve lifted another gear and completely dismantled his opponent. A long deuce game to finish, tilted the match in our favour.

Rob hoping for an easier match at 3 was given a rude shock going down 46 in the 1st set.

A strong reply, overpowering his opponent in the 2nd before running out of steam in the super.

Winning the 2nd set proved crucial to securing the pts for the team.

With 3 weeks of the season left, our chances of securing 1st on the ladder remain a distinct possibility.
