In the first match back after the mid-season break, two out of six Maccabi teams won on a glorious summer's day. It was pleasing to see the return after injury of Joel Rabinov and Ryan Sharp, as well as an impressive debut from Dean Jackson.
MTC are planning to enter a Sunday Pennant team for winter (starting in May). Please contact Jordan Jaffe if interested.
We are also looking at entering a Women's pennant team: please speak to Adam Needleman if interested.

BRTA Summer Pennant
Section 3 Maccabi 5-7-63 defeated Highmoor Uniting 1-3-32
Jordan Jaffe 8-0
Jonny Henquin 8-1
Daniel Sneider 8-0
Rob Minc 8-0
Jordan Jaffe/ Jonny Henquin 4-6 6-2 6-7
Daniel Sneider/ Rob Minc 2-6 6-4 7-6
First week back, we were all excited to get back on court and continue our push towards making finals.
The doubles for both pairs was extremely tough, with both pairs losing the first set, and then stepping up their game to win the 2nd set. Unfortunately Jordan and Jonny couldn’t reach the level they played in the 2nd set and went down 12-10 in a match tiebreak, whilst Daniel and Rob were able to maintain the momentum and win an impressive match tiebreak 10-7.
In singles, it was a world class display from the entire team. With everyone playing at an extremely high level to only lose 1 game throughout all 4 matches - truly a masterclass!
With 3 weeks to go, we are sitting comfortably in the top 4, with likely 1 more win securing us finals.

Section 5 Maccabi 6-8-60 defeated Kings Park 0-1-33
Ilay Givoni 8-7
Ryan Sharp 8-1
Marcus Frajman 8-5
Arvid Kreimer 8-2
Ilay Givoni/ Ryan Sharp 3-6 6-4 7-6
Marcus Frajman/ Arvid Kreimer 6-1 6-1
It was great to have Ryan back after a long injury lay-off. With little fuss, he dismantled his opponent. Ilay did brilliantly to be up 4-1 but then lost 5 games in a row to be down 4-6. Ilay willed himself back into the match and then prevailed in the tiebreak against a very strong opponent. Marcus had the match on his terms. Arvid was comfortable in his match to ensure that we were up 4-0 after singles.
In doubles, Ilay and Ryan overcame a slow start to turn it around and win the super tiebreak. Marcus and Arvid were clinical to win both sets in record time.

Section 6 Maccabi 0-2-40 defeated by BLTC 6-8-69
Dean Steinberg 2-8
Ryan Behr 3-8
Nathan Rapoport 2-8
Charlie Landau 1-8
Ryan Behr/ Nathan Rapoport 7-5 4-6 6-7
Dean Steinberg/ Charlie Landau 2-6 7-6 6-7
Section 7 Maccabi 2-4-59 defeated by Parkdale 4-6-59
Dean Jackson 3-8
Adam Needleman 8-7
Daniel Vertes 5-8
Blake Golden 8-6
Dean Jackson/ Adam Needleman 4-6 6-1 6-7
Daniel Vertes/ Blake Golden 2-6 6-3 6-7
Playing the top team is never easy but once again we will go home wondering what could have been. Losing both doubles in marathon tie breaks was a hurdle too large to overcome. The shining light was the unearthing of a new star in Dean Jackson. Look forward to seeing him moving forward. A clean powerful ball striker. The other notable was a fit looking Blake who is starting to get consistent results in his singles. Daniel Vertes fought hard with tennis elbow as he always does but will need a stint on the sidelines. The season has been good for the team who have showed tremendous spirit and fight despite not once having their best four take to the courts.

Section 8 Maccabi 2-2-43 defeated by Royal South Yarra 4-6-51
Henry Orner 8-4
Joel Rabinov 4-8
Aden Minaker 2-8
Stephen Gorenstein 8-3
Henry Orner/ Stephen Gorenstein 6-3 3-6 6-7
Aden Minaker/ Daniel Brami 2-6 4-6
At Royal South Yarra on the en tout cas, we started off with singles.
Henry wasn't feeling like he was playing well, yet got out to a 5-4 lead, before stepping it up for a 8-4 win.
Joel playing a leftie, couldn't get his game going (mostly hitting short or down the middle). Unable to hold serve in a 4-8 loss.
Aden couldn't get going, going down 2-8.
Stephen playing a 15 year old and giving him a tennis lesson, in a commanding 8-3 win.
Henry and Stephen were playing well for a 6-3, 2-1 lead. However they started hitting errors, going down 3-6 and then going down in the match tiebreaker.
Aden and Daniel (who came in for the doubles) went down 2-6 opening set. However they stepped up for a 2-0 lead: from there, they kept breaking serve but unable to hold serve. From 4-2 up, lost the final 4 games.
Overall: A tough match, one we were in but couldn't get over the line in. An enjoyable lunch, however would have much preferred the win. It is now about ending the season well. We have 3 more games to find some form before winter pennant.

Section 9 Maccabi 2-3-45 defeated by BLTC 4-5-49
Jesse Stowe-Lindner 7-8
Ben Pollak 5-8
Jack Stock 6-8
Stephen Kleid 8-5
Jesse Stowe-Lindner/ Ben Pollak 7-5 6-3
Jack Stock/ Stephen Kleid 2-6 4-6
First game back and unfortunately a fairly disappointing day.
Started with Singles, Ben, Jesse and Jack all were in fairly tight matches especially Jack and Jesse but unfortunately couldn’t quite over the line. Stephen on the other hand knew his plan from the get go and was our sole singles winner.
In doubles, Ben and Jesse started slow going down 2-0 but then captured the momentum going up 4-2 and losing it again to concede the next 3 games, however in keeping up with the momentum changes then won the set 7-5. The second set was much simpler winning it 6-3.
Unfortunately for Stephen and Jack, although a much more spirited performance in the second set, went down in 2 sets.
Overall, very annoying loss against a team we should’ve beaten, but there is still half a chance of a W as there is a chance the opposition mucked up their playing order 🤞🤞
