Grade 5 Section 3 Maccabi 6-9-64 defeated Eildon Park 0-1-37

Assaf Drori/ Asaf Nagar 8-4
Jordan Jaffe/ Jonny Henquin 8-3
Assaf Drori 6-4 6-3
Asaf Nagar 5-7 6-3 10-7
Jordan Jaffe 7-5 6-3
Jonny Henquin 6-2 6-3

On a beautiful sunny 14 degree day, which felt more like low 20s, we brought a very strong team in a must win clash against the top team.

In doubles, Assaf and Asaf started slow, but as they started to work into the game and get their rhythm, there was no stopping them as they won 8-4. Jordan and Jonny also played really well together, taking control of most points and limiting their errors, winning 8-3.

In singles, almost everyone had very tough matches. Assaf coming against the best player in the section, got better as the match went on to win a well earned match in straight sets.

While Asaf came against an opponent who just went for everything and was playing the best tennis he had ever played. After dropping the first set, Asaf fought hard to win the 2nd and a win a close super tiebreak.

Jordan in the singles, played very consistent tennis to take the first set 7-5. Although it looked like Jordan was in trouble when he was 2-1 down in the 2nd and his strings broke, Jordan’s perseverance and more attacking nature led him to a straights sets win.

Jonny, who is a team captain’s dream for a no.4 player, did exactly what he needed to do. Although he never got to his best, Jonny still played at a very solid level to win in straight sets.

At the end of the day, a really good 6-0 win against strong opposition. With finals locked in, the last round will determine whether we get a home final or not, with 1st-3rd separated by only 4 points.

Grade 8 Section 3 Maccabi 0-0-24 defeated by Kings Park 6-10-64

Luka Federman 4-6 2-6
Arvid Kreimer 0-6 4-6
Adam Needleman 0-6 4-6
Daniel Henquin 2-6 3-6

Playing in a match that guaranteed the winner a finals spot , against traditional opponents that we usually have close contests with , made today an important contest.
Unfortunately injuries dictated that our two highest ranked players could not play whilst the opposition were able to select their best four. Their number 4 player had a higher UTR than our top player and the day unfortunately went according to the rankings. Not much more to add with the only bright light being Luka Federman who competed well at number 1 .
Next week, in the last round for the season, we get another chance and if we win we will get a deserved finals spot.

Sunny blue sky and calm – perfect for tennis battles

Saturday’s Winter Comp clash between Maccabi and Coatesville delivered a full day of drama, determination, and thrilling momentum swings. On our home courts, every player left it all out there, with two nail-biting singles tie-breaks and a standout doubles performance to highlight a fiercely contested tie.

👫 Doubles Matches
Doubles Pair No. 1 – Daniel Goodrich & Ben Pollak
🔻 Lost 5–8
Daniel and Ben had their moments of brilliance, with strong returning games and net exchanges, but once again the 50-50 points didn’t fall their way. Despite pushing hard late in the match, the momentum slipped away as Coatesville edged the tight battle. A frustrating repeat of recent weeks, but signs of a solid pairing are emerging.

🗣️ Ben reflected: “We played well overall, but couldn't finish off the key points – we’ll need to bring more aggression at crunch time.”

Doubles Pair No. 2 – Henry Orner & Ashley Raboy
✅ Won 8–1
A dominant display! Henry and Ashley were in sync from the first point – minimal errors, clinical volleys, and pinpoint returns. The pair didn’t give their opponents a sniff and sealed a crushing 8-1 win to get Maccabi off to a flying start on the doubles scoreboard.

🗣️ Henry shared: “We clicked straight away – our serves, returns, and net play were all on. Great team performance.”

👤 Singles Matches
Singles No. 1 – Henry Orner
🔻 Lost 6–1, 2–6, 8–10 (Super Tie-Break)
Henry roared into the match, outclassing his opponent in the opening set with clean hitting and excellent court coverage. But the tide turned quickly in the second as unforced errors crept in. In a tense super tie-break, it was neck and neck until the end, but Coatesville edged it in the clutch moments.

🗣️ Henry admitted: “I started sharp but couldn’t maintain it when he lifted. A very even contest – just couldn’t pull away in the breaker.”

Singles No. 2 – Daniel Goodrich
🔻 Lost 6–4, 5–7, 8–10 (Super Tie-Break)
Another epic! Daniel started strong, taking the first set with aggressive play and some cheeky drop shots. But his opponent turned the tables in the second set, pushing Daniel into a decider. Leading 7–2 in the super, the win looked certain… until a momentum swing saw him lose it 8–10 in heartbreaking fashion.

🗣️ Daniel reflected: “A real rollercoaster. I was up, then down, then up again – I just couldn’t stay consistent when it mattered.”

Singles No. 3 – Ben Pollak
✅ Won 7–6 (7–5), 6–2
Ben’s match was a classic grind in the first set, going down to a tight tiebreak where he held his nerve for a clutch 7–5 win. But from there, he went up a gear – unleashing some bold, attacking tennis to dominate the second set with authority.

🗣️ Ben said: “First set was tight, but I really found my rhythm in the second – more aggressive and confident play made the difference.”

Singles No. 4 – Ashley Raboy
✅ Won 6–3, 6–3
Ashley delivered a clinical and composed performance against Daniel Foldvari – the same opponent who’d beaten him in a prior encounter. Determined to turn the tables, Ashley executed his game plan with precision. Even as Daniel fought back in the second set, Ashley stayed mentally strong to close it out in straight sets.

🗣️ Ashley noted: “It felt great to get the win this time. I kept my foot on the gas and didn’t let him back into it.”

🏁 Final Wrap-Up
It was a day of fine margins, with two singles super tie-breaks going against Maccabi by the narrowest of margins – both 8–10. But strong wins from Ben and Ashley in singles, and a brilliant doubles display from Henry and Ashley ensured this match stayed close throughout. Despite the overall result, the performance showed heart, fight, and potential.

💪 With more consistency and belief in the crunch moments, this team has the makings of a top-tier finals threat. Bring on next week!

Grade 11 Section 2 Maccabi 2-4-46 defeated by Bulleen 4-6-47

Jesse Stowe-Lindner/ Jonah Stowe-Lindner 5-8
Daniel Vertes/ Blake Golden 8-6
Jesse Stowe-Lindner 3-6 3-6
Daniel Vertes 6-7 2-6
Jonah Stowe-Lindner 1-6 6-2 7-10
Blake Golden 6-0 6-0

We were competitive against the top team. Daniel and Blake teamed up for the first time. The duo were down 3-6 before winning five consecutive games. The Lindner brothers came close.

In singles, the highlight was Blake's clean score sheet against a big hitting inconsistent opponent. Always special to win with doughnuts. Jesse versed a strong opponent. Daniel was leading 4-1 in the first set until his youthful opponent incorporated drop shots into many points. Jonah came so close against a consistent youngster.

Grade 12 Section 3 Maccabi 0-0-32 defeated by Tennis World 6-10-66

Stephen Gorenstein/ Stephen Kleid 4-8
Daniel Brami/ Evgeni Grishin 3-8
Stephen Gorenstein 4-6 2-6
Daniel Brami 4-6 1-6
Stephen Kleid 3-6 5-7
Evgeni Grishin 1-6 5-7

Evgeni Grishin delivered a much-improved performance in his singles match. His second set was a hard-fought battle where he rallied impressively, nearly pushing the match to a tiebreaker. As the saying goes, "the score doesn’t tell the full story", and that certainly applies here.
