Role of Parent
Parent participation is vital to the smooth running of the K&DJTA Competition. It is important that all parents be positively involved, regardless of their level of tennis knowledge and expertise.
•
Everyone should be able to follow their own team on MATCH CENTRE or the Korrine & District Facebook page and understand where they play each week.
•
If your child will not be available for a match, it is your responsibility to find a fill in. Please let the team manager know as soon as possible. This is essential for planning team rotating rosters, if required.
•
What to wear and bring: All players should be wearing neat ‘sport’ clothes; shorts with a pocket are ideal to store the spare ball - this saves a lot of time. Sport shoes are essential. Some teams within the Korrine & District Tennis association wear a club uniform (club t-shirt and hat). This helps the kids feel like a team and gives them a feeling of representing their club. This is encouraged but not mandatory. As the weather heats up all players will need a drink bottle, hat, and sunscreen.
•
Spread the responsibilities: Sections 1, 2 & 3 must have one parent on duty to supervise the team. Section 4 teams need one parent from each team to assist in umpiring all sets. If you do not know how to score and umpire it is helpful to stand next to a parent who does. There are also many scoring apps available. Do your best and ask for assistance from another parent if you are having any trouble.
•
Encourage and display good sportsmanship, etiquette and behaviour. This includes parents/ supporters not jeering the opposition and not clapping when the opposition makes an error (especially in finals). Cheering and clapping good points from both sides is encouraged. Team managers have the right to warn supporters displaying poor sportsmanship to remove themselves from the area or cease the behaviour. Players displaying poor sportsmanship may also be given a warning by team managers.
•
Impress upon your child the importance of being in a team and all that this entails e.g. encouraging your teammates, being responsible, commitment to the team etc.

If you have any areas of concern, contact your Team Manager, Junior Club Coordinator or an Executive on this committee.
