Getting Girls Into Tennis

Box Hill Tennis Club’s “Getting Girls Into Tennis” program is designed to encourage local girls aged from 11 to 14 who don’t play tennis to try tennis.

The program will provide 6 weeks of introductory group coaching, followed by 2 weeks of social tennis designed to reinforce skills and teach scoring, rules and etiquette. Sessions will be run by an experienced coach in a fun, relaxed manner.

Update 10th March: Still a few places left in our second program starting Friday 19th March at 5.45 pm to 6.45 pm. Applications by Wednesday 17th March (see below). Applicants notified Thursday 18th March.

The program starts on Friday, 12 March. Sessions will run from 4.45 pm till 5.45 pm on Fridays for 8 weeks (not including Easter Friday or school holidays). Sessions will be held on 12/3, 19/3, 26/3, 23/4, 30/4, 7/5, 14/5 and 21/5.  Participants are expected to attend each session.

All equipment will be provided.

Girls participating in the program can wear runners and whatever they feel comfortable in (e.g., shorts, skirts, tracksuit pants, leggings, etc).  Participants will receive a BHTC top as part of a welcome pack.

There will be 8 girls in the program. Depending on numbers, we may also be able to run a second program on the same dates from 5.45 pm till 6.45 pm. If demand exceeds the number of available positions, a Waiting List will also be established in case any positions become available.

Girls participating in the program will also be able to access the equipment and BHTC’s courts at other set times if they want to practice outside the program sessions.

Applications to become part of the program may be made by sending an email to  boxhilltennisclub@gmail.com before 9 March 2021. Please include the applicant’s name, address, age, school attended and their tennis history (if any). We’d also like to know how you became aware of the Getting Girls Into Tennis program.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by 10 March 2021.

Box Hill Tennis Club’s Getting Girls Into Tennis program is supported by Active Club Grants, an initiative of VicHealth. Thanks to their generosity, there will be no charge for girls participating in the program.
