Waverley Tennis Winter Seniors - Winter 2025 Wrap Up

We entered the season with 3 teams, which was great to see; A Res 1, A Res 3 and B Special 1.

Once again, it was the ever-consistent B Special 1, captained by Ross Johnson, making it through to the finals.  Unfortunately, after upsetting Pakenham in the away semi-final, they couldn’t match the team from Centenary Park and were defeated 2-4-29 to 0-1-18.

Congratulations go to Ross Johnson, Hayden Brass, and Geoff Shallue for another great season.

A Res 1 (Gabriel Tie-Roebert) – 5th

A Res 3 (Archie Stevens) – 7th

B Special 1 (Ross Johnson) – 3rd – Grand Final defeated by Centenary Park 2-4-29 to 0-1-18.

We would like to thank Angelo Giampaolo, together with all the team captains for their assistance in managing all the teams for the winter season.

The club’s competition players have now turned their attention to the Summer Season for 2025-26 which commenced on Saturday 11th October.

We have entered 12 Open Singles Doubles teams in Waverley on Saturday and one Sunday team in Eastern Region Open Singles Doubles which I believe is a first for the club.

For the first time in several years, we have a team entered in the highest grade called Challenge Cup – A1 which is great to see.  The team will be captained by Alex Savelli, Raph Savelli and Darren Lew.

Members, please note that due to the number of teams entered, court bookings will be limited on Saturday afternoons. However, generally if you arrive by around 4:30 some teams will have finished and courts may be free.

Further ahead, I look forward to celebrating the years achievements at the Annual Dinner and Presentation Night to be held on Saturday 6th December at the MCG.  It’s always a fantastic night enjoyed by all players, friends and families in attendance.
