The lack of period-specific hygiene services at the Club was raised with our Committee by two of our young female members, Brooke Walton and Holly Nolan. The Committee confirmed the Club’s related OH&S responsibilities and also noted a related player retention issue, particularly with our young women, who stop playing tennis in their adolescent years, in some cases due to inadequate facilities and services.

The Committee has therefore approved the provision of period product disposal units in each female toilet cubicle and a dispenser stocked with periods products in the female toilet. The ACT government, our also implementing a similar disposal unit program across Canberra’s public toilets and in public schools. Our disposal units are now operational in the toilets and the period product dispenser has been sourced for installation and stocking soon.

The Committee commends Brooke and Holly for their initiative and leadership in this matter.
