Junior Competition

Junior Competition

Juniors play in the Moorabbin and Districts Junior Tennis Association (MDJTA) 18 and under team competition held on Saturday mornings. Seasons run for 14 weeks, February – June and July – December, with no matches scheduled in school holidays. Matches start at either 8:00, 8:30 or 10:00am and vary week to week. Parents must complete a registration form and return it to the club by the date listed on the form to register their child to play in a junior team.

Junior Teams

Four players per team play each week, each person playing one set of singles and one set of doubles (first to six games). Teams will normally be made up of more than four members, in which case they will be rostered off some weeks to cover for absences as required. Player placement within a team, as well as grading and team make-up, will be based on MDJTA statistics from the previous season and is at the sole discretion of the club.

Fees

Each player must be a member of the Ormond Tennis Club. Application forms and membership fees are available in the club house and can be downloaded from the membership page. Non-financial members cannot play competition.

Team uniform and player conduct

Only recognised tennis attire and footwear are permitted:

• Boys: tennis shorts and shirts (no casual wear)

• Girls: tennis dresses, skirts and tops (no casual wear)

• Shoes: flat rubber soles – ripple-soled shoes are not permitted.

We pride ourself on sportsmanship. All players representing the club must conduct themselves in a sportsman like manner and observe tennis etiquette.

Team Managers

Every junior team will have a Team Manager filled by a volunteer parent for the duration of the season to be a point of contact for the team in the event of fixture changes. If you would like to help out as Team Manager, please indicate your interest on the junior registration form.

Duty Parents: Parent participation on match days

All parents will be provided the season roster with fixture details, contact details for the team and Duty Parent roster prior to the first match. Parents are rostered to take turns on duty typically 2-3 times per season.

For home matches, the Duty Parent

• provides refreshments for all players (including the opposition)

• checks the score sheet is completed and placed in the letter box slot outside the club house door to be processed by the Coach

• ensures the club house is clean and tidy prior to leaving

For away matches the Duty Parent is expected to collect the players from Ormond 30 minutes prior to the designated start time and drive them home at the conclusion of the morning.

Note: If a parent is unable to fulfil their rostered duty on a given day they are required to swap with another parent, and advise the Team Manager of any new arrangements.
