Ormond Tennis Club was formed on 11 December 1924. This decision followed a meeting eight months earlier when local tennis enthusiasts met in the Presbyterian Kindergarten Hall. Caulfield Council moved to erect two asphalt courts in Ormond Park and the club members set about raising funds for a pavilion.

The Mayor and Councillors were invited to the opening of the courts 27 March 1926. By the following year the club had 33 gentleman and 42 lady members. In 1928, due to crowding of the courts on Saturday afternoons the committee pressed the Council for additional courts and urged members to help with the extension of the pavilion by donating money or offering voluntary labour. By the end of the 1928 four teams were entered in the South Yarra – Carrum Association competition.

Membership numbers were depleted during World War II. All members serving with the fighting forces were granted honorary membership for the duration of the war. Tournament winners in 1943 were presented with War Savings Certificates and the committee approached Council for a reduction in rental. In 1946 Council granted permission for play on Sundays from 1pm to 6pm. The following year Council replaced the two original asphalt courts with five en tout cas courts. Tournaments, championships, competition play in various associations and social matches have taken place as season have come and gone. Pennants hanging in the club house are reminders of past successes.

The club records detail the pavilion extensions, repairs, further extensions and again more and more repairs. This continued until 1986 when the club saw the completion of a new brick veneer building jointly funded by Council, the commonwealth employment program and the club itself.In response to the changing lifestyles and the introduction of weekend retail trading, the club saw the need to offer night tennis. In 2004, floodlights for courts 1 and 2 were installed partially funded by a commonwealth government grant. A regular Wednesday social tennis evening commenced soon after and has gone from strength to strength. Due to the success of Wednesday night tennis, lights for court 3 were installed in 2016 and court 4 lights in 2019.
