Newcastle & District Tennis Association is proud to promote a new tennis program commencing this Saturday 30th November 2024 specifically designed for all players with a physical disability.
The Para Standing Tennis or Adaptive Standing Tennis is for people with physical disabilities who want to play tennis without using a wheelchair. This includes people with amputations, acquired brain injuries, cerebral palsy, people who are short statured etc.
Kai Ryan is a small stature tennis player from Belmont Tennis Club. His father, Nathan, has been very busy building a full Standing Adaptive tennis affiliated structure with Tennis Australia.
Adam Hills (Australian comedian, radio and television presenter) has one prosethetic foot and has been a huge driver for this program.

What can you do to help this program?
- We are looking for all players you may know with a disability
- If you work for a community disabilty agency who wants to host tennis for a daily outing event, share this article
- Post this on your social media accounts
- Share any ideas you may have with us to improve the awareness of this program

TIME: 9:30am to 11am - coaching provided from 10am to 11am with Jeremy
COST: FREE thanks to the support of the City of Newcastle launch funding!
Pathway Planning for our region:
- Term 4 2024 - come and try open to all physical disability categories including wheelchair.
- Term 1 2024 - ongoing weekly play program
- End of term 1 Disability Celebrity Gala Day to be hosted at Bar Beach Tennis Club
- Term 2 the program will move to a user pays option if additional funding cannot be secured, please share with us your ideas to firstly grow this program and keep this program affordable for all of community.
- Host at least 2 Para Standing Competition days for players at our RMS days in 2025.

Thanks and congratulations are passed onto Nathan & Kai Ryan and Darrel Spark from the NSW Amputee office in Newcastle for all their ongoing support to get this program integrated into Tennis across Australia. We also thank the City of Newcastle staff for their support in delivering this disability opportunity to the community.
