Newcastle Ladies were winners with a resounding victory over the Gosford ladies at Newcastle District Park on Wednesday.
After 64 ladies played in a two division event on Wednesday it was the Newcastle Division 1 girls who dominated over the Gosford girls taking out the day 84 to 43.
All players played 4 doubles sets doubles throughout the day. Lots of tennis for those competitive ladies and plenty of times for laughs on and off the court for those who participated in the day to enjoy the hospitality, the catering and make new friends.
Newcastle President Ian Tennant called in during the morning and said “he was thrilled to see the facility with so much joy and laughter about, The interclub day brings a new life to the facility”.
Congratulations goes to Julie Shearer the Newcastle president and her team how hosted the day for the first time at Newcastle. The spirt that the matches were played was amazing, play even stopped early in the afternoon as the Knights Bus departed as the team started their journey to Auckland, just to add to the fun of the day.
Around the region every week there are many social ladies tennis programs for players of all standards and ages. Overall there would be in excess of 1000 players each week take the court to play in a mid-week ladies program, some a competitive and many are just social gatherings with some tennis added. We invite and welcome interested ladies to join a program near you; if you visit www.play.tennis.com and enter your postcode you will be able to find a tennis club and their programs near where you live.
Recently Medowie Tennis Club and Scone Tennis Club also hosted an interclub day in Scone. In 2024 the organisers of the Newcastle vs Gosford day are keen to develop an open day as a second day for ladies to travel and play against other club ladies. The Newcastle Interclub Challenge returns to Gosford in 2024 and club president Kathryn Kelly and her team are set to embark on a membership campaign for division 1 players to try and get their hands on the challenge trophy for the first time. So if you are keen for some Wednesday competitive tennis get in touch with the Gosford or the Newcastle tennis club to join their programs, but for those looking for more social opportunities there are lots of clubs near you where you can enjoy mid-week tennis.
Congratulations to the Newcastle Ladies on their victory and hosting a great fun tennis day for over 60 ladies, well done to Gosford ladies, thank you for participating in the event we all look forward to 2024 to get on the Gosford courts and play again.
