September Update

The Heathmont Tennis Club committee are so pleased to see the club and tennis courts  continue to be used so extensively. We continue to have very strong participation numbers in all areas. One of the most pleasing things is the regular feedback we get from other clubs around how welcoming and strong a culture we have. A tribute to each and every one of our members and something we are very proud of.

Some updates to keep you informed are.

New Chairs
Thanks to everyone who has made a contribution to our fundraiser for new court seats. We have so far raised enough for the first two seats, and our goal is to add another 12 across all courts. If you would like your business name adorned as a sponsor, we’d love to hear from you.
Donations are tax-deductible, and every contribution helps us towards another step.
Donations can be made via the ASF: https://asf.org.au/projects/heathmont-tennis-club/tennis-court-seats

Light and Fencing upgrades
As mentioned previously, we are progressing towards the commencement of major upgrades to the tennis club, with all our court lights and fences to be replaced. Whilst this will see a huge improvement to the club, it does mean the club will be closed for a period of time. The proposed timing for works is from early November to February next year. This will impact coaching and competition in tennis. Plans are currently underway to have access to other tennis courts in the local area over this period. This will be communicated out when dates and venues are confirmed.

Racquets and Rhythms - Save the date
With the overwhelming success of our last Racquets and Rhythms event, we will host a similar event on Saturday, October 18th. We look forward to seeing many of you at this event with more details to come.

Seniors competition
Heathmont had another strong winter season, fielding 3 singles/doubles Pennant teams, and 2 Masters over 35s teams.  We also had an ERT singles/doubles team.  Saturday afternoons always have a great atmosphere, with all courts in action most weeks, and often followed by a barbecue feed with the opposition teams.
On court, two of our Pennant teams made finals, with the Grade 6 team making it all the way to the Grand Final, where they narrowly lost in a high-quality match. Well done to all involved.

We will soon be entering teams in the ERT summer competition, which starts 11 October.  4-person team formats run on Saturday, with a 2-person team singles/doubles format on Sunday.  All formats have multiple sections based on playing standard and are gender neutral.

Junior Competition
Heathmont remains one of the strongest represented teams in the ERT. Whilst we didn’t have any Grand Finalists from the Winter season, we did see some brilliant tennis and plenty of smiles. We will once again field 9 junior teams in the Summer season, which is the capacity for our courts. Team make-up and fixtures will be sent out in the coming weeks once confirmed.

Night Competition
Heathmont again is one of the strongest clubs for participation numbers in night competition. We have representation at all levels, with many of our teams playing in the higher sections of various competitions. Night tennis is always a lovely time, and we are always on the lookout for extra players, whether as an emergency or a regular player. If you are interested in playing night tennis, please let Aidan Searle 0466 116 402 or [email protected] know

As the weather starts to improve, we look forward to continuing to see many of you around the club.

Good Tennis,
Aidan Searle (on behalf of the Heathmont Tennis Club Committee)
