Code of Conduct
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR
COMPETITION AND SOCIAL PLAY
GENERAL BEHAVIOUR:
- ALWAYS compete to the best of your abilities
- ALWAYS apologise immediately if you hit an opposition player
- ALWAYS halt play and offer immediate assistance if a player is injured
- NEVER swear loudly, make obscene gestures or use intimidatory behaviour
- NEVER abuse balls, racquets or other equipment
- NEVER play in a dangerous or reckless manner
- NEVER ask or allow spectators to interfere
SCORING, LINE CALLS, ETC.
- ALWAYS call out the score loudly before serving to start a game or point
- ALWAYS take responsibility for line calls on your side of the net
- ALWAYS make ‘fault’, ‘let’, ‘out’ or other calls immediately and loudly
- ALWAYS give the benefit of the doubt to your opponent(s)
- NEVER go to your opponent’s side of the net to check a mark unless invited
- ALWAYS halt play immediately if you are genuinely interrupted by a ball from another court
GOOD ETIQUETTE
- DO NOT return the first service if it is an obvious fault
- DO NOT yell out regularly, stall, sulk, celebrate or complain too much
- DO NOT walk behind another court when a point is in progress
- DO return balls directly and without delay to the server at the completion of each point
- DO wait for a gap between points before retrieving or returning a ball from or to another court
- DO shake hands (or, in COVID times, touch racquets) with your opponent(s) at the end of a match
