  1. Court Works - helped by a $35,000 Grant from the State Government

Our resurfaced Courts 1 and 2 will be green like those above in Portland Victoria.

The recent State Budget included a $35,000 Grant from the State Government for works at our tennis club. The grant follows years of detailed work and submissions, plus lots of community support. It will be used to upgrade our court lights to LED.

New LED lights will provide more than treble current light, use half the power and require a lot less maintenance. The lights will be reliable and turn on and off instantly. The globes will last much longer than the current ones. We expect the lights works to be done over a few days in September or October, depending on delivery of new materials.

We’ve just purchased two new court nets – one is on Court 3 – and all the courts will have new nets when resurfacing of Courts 1 and 2 is done with artificial grass over a week in late September or October. Courts 1 and 2 will also have new court posts.

  1. Our new Defibrillator – helped by a Grant from Bendigo Bank Caulfield

Our Club has purchased, and will soon receive, a new heart defibrillator, helped by a donation from our bank - Bendigo Bank Caulfield.

The Club Committee is considering where best to put the defibrillator cabinet – such as outside or inside the clubhouse, hoping of course that we never have to use it!

And we are fortunate to have Dr Michael Stagg on our Committee to help train us in the use of the defibrillator.

  1. Adult Teams for Summer

Our Club must enter teams by 2nd September for the Bayside Adult Summer competition starting 1st October. We’re considering having four teams – two in Singles/Doubles and two in Mixed Rubbers. If you’re interested or listed below, please contact Gaurav Jain to confirm playing or not at [email protected] or phone 0497 569 574.

In addition to our two winter teams, the two extra teams would probably be built on:

Singles Doubles

Nasik Ahmad, Simon Shuster, Bill Renwick, Simon Danby, Ron Slamowicz, plus sometimes Max Dorey, Adam Shuster and Jordan Rogelberg.

Mixed Rubbers with a French Flavour!

Francois Vinsonneau, Benoit Fissot, Martin Maziarz, Andrew Goode, Laure Vinsonneau, Aurelie Roberts, Jemma Zuker, Kara Goode and Rosy Renwick.

  1. News for our Juniors

Child Safety is a high priority for our Club. We have adopted policies on child safety, emergency management and a code of conduct. These will be refined in future to meet our practical needs in consultation with Rosy Renwick (our new Child Safety Officer) and Michelle Petersen (who organises our Juniors). At this stage we will expect all Committee Members, Coaches, Adult Club Team Captains and Junior Team Co-ordinators to have a Working with Children (volunteers) Certificate.

We are delighted that Rosy Renwick is our Child Safety Officer –

contactable at [email protected] or phone 0407 887 698.

Our Junior teams did well in the February to June season, with five teams making the grand final and three winning their section.

Phil Mattei and Michelle Petersen expect the Club’s Junior Championship Tournament to run on October 1st. On that day Junior awards will be distributed, including monetary awards, trophies and club caps.

  1. Clubhouse Cleaning

It’s very important that the clubrooms be left clean and tidy after tennis at our Club – social organisers, team captains and junior parents please ensure this happens.

On top of that our Club Committee wants to upgrade our level of clubhouse cleaning, especially the bathrooms, within a budget of about $100 per month. An option could be for the bathrooms to be cleaned fortnightly and/or a slightly bigger clean monthly. We have also talked to the football and cricket clubs which use the Glen Huntly Park pavilion and they may be interested in a shared arrangement.

If you or anyone you know could be interested, please get in touch with

Ray Yates at [email protected] or phone 0491 141 551.
