Tennis Update - 23rd of October 2021

What Are Current Rules For Social Tennis Play?

The main update is that there are now no restrictions around who is playing singles or doubles.  Great news!

Please read the detail below for all the rules.

Tennis Victoria Guidelines

  • Tennis as a community sport can return for the minimum number required (singles and doubles play permitted) at outdoor facilities only. This also includes coaching, team training and match practice.
  • Competition and spectators are not yet permitted. A supervisory parent/guardian may attend with their child.
  • If a tennis club is open and used for community sport only, patrons participating or facilitating community sport (e.g. players, coaches, volunteers) do not need to be fully vaccinated to access the facility. Facilities providing goods and services additional to community sport will need to follow the Directions relevant to their operations.
  • Everyone attending a tennis club must continue to check in via the Service Victoria QR code app.
  • Face masks are required at all times except for those with a medical exemption and when playing on court.
  • Indoor tennis facilities, changerooms and clubhouses are still closed, toilets are open.
  • Visitors to the venue must only be from Metropolitan Melbourne. Regional Victoria residents are not permitted
  • Shared equipment must be cleaned between users.

Nillumbik Shire Council Guidelines

  • Outdoor community sport can commence with the minimum number of people required for training only.
  • No competition is allowed.
  • Spectators are not allowed, although people necessary for training such as trainers, coaches, carers, parents and guardians are exempt.
  • Club rooms including change rooms are closed for use, but toilets are open.
  • Mandatory electronic record keeping for all venues and facilities (including council facilities).
  • Masks must be worn outdoors at all times unless training or a permissible exception applies.

Is Competition Tennis Coming Back This Season?

NENTG (Tuesday and Wednesday night) - current season cancelled, now preparing for Autumn 22 season.

DVTA (Monday and Thursday night) - the association is planning to recommence the current season as soon as the rules allow it.  It would be without finals, and relaxed rules around emergency players and when a team can't get enought players for a match.

NEJTA (Saturday juniors) - the association is proposing a half season format, with a survey going out to all players/parents looking to gauge likely numbers.

MMTA (Thursday afternoon mixed) - waiting for confirmation from the association.

What About The Clubhouse, Toilets?

We still can't use the clubhouse at the moment, except for the toilets.  We can't use the change rooms or showers.  And the toilet rules are pretty strict.  The council requires that we clean and disinfect the toilets twice per day.  The instructions are printed and stuck up on the bathroom mirrors, and the gloves and bleach are on the bathroom benches.  It doesn't take long to do, but must be done for example after coaching if anyone uses the toilet, or after a social tennis session like Sunday morning.
