New Courts
Progress
The project should be complete shortly - in the next week or so. The court surfaces are complete. The nets and posts etc. are all onsite and ready to be fitted next week, and the lights are all set up and working. The site is being cleared of machinery and rubbish, and topsoil is being spread around in preparation for grass seeding.
Construction Site
Some trespassing has been reported by the contractor. Please stay out of the construction site. Won't be long and it'll be ours.
Entrance Works
In the last update (5th Feb 21) it was reported that we'd have to widen the whole entrance path due to Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) issues, which would mean shortening courts 2 and 3 by about 15cm each. We have negotiated with the project consultant regarding these issues, arguing that the risk to players of having shortened courts should be taken into account. The result is that we now only need to widen the first two metres of the entrance, to provide a place for a wheelchair user to come in and turn around if necessary. The widening (30cm) will be done on the right hand side as you come in (court 2), and since there's a light pole on the court there anyway the widening should have very little impact on play, if any, for that court.
This work is now expected to start early next week (15th March), and the entrance will be unavailable for use for around one week. Our temporary entrance during the works will be the gate at the south end of the venue, at the corner of courts 5, 4, and 7. There'll be signs to help people find their way. There'll be a padlock on that gate, and your black or gray key will open it.
Book A Court
As part of the entrance work the contractor will be installing a new 1.5m wide gate which will include the pin pad for the Book A Court system, so from that moment the Book A Court system will be active. It's the Tennis Victoria system that allows court booking online and managed entry to the venue. A separate email will be sent out, and posters put up at the clubhouse explaining the system.
For the public:
Anyone (e.g. non members) will be able to find us and book and pay for a court through our website, using the website https://play.tennis.com.au/court-hire, or by googling something like "tennis court hire". They'll get a single-use code to use to enter the venue. If it's at night the lights will come on automatically for the duration of their booking.
For members:
For members it'll mean that you can book a specific court to play on, and you'll get a PIN code to use to open the main gate instead of using your key. Competition, coaching and regular social tennis sessions won't require every person to enter with a PIN - the system will be configured to manage these events.
We have a new membership system which will be linked to Book A Court so that when you book a court as a member it will know not to charge you public rates. So please keep an eye out for an email (including your junk mail) asking you to activate your new account and action it as soon as you can, otherwise you won't be able to get in the front gate!
P.S. Your grey member key will still get you into the clubhouse - the only change will be to the front gate entry, where the PIN pad replaces your key.
