Update on Toilet & Change Rooms

The long-awaited provision of new toilets (including disabled facilities), change rooms, store room and an enlarged kitchen is nearing completion. John Sims of Mick Sims Contracting, the builder in charge of the $150,000 job, can now see the end in sight after commencing the contract at the end of July. Unfortunately, progress was delayed early in the job due to the discovery of de-fibrillated asbestos on the back of old lino which cost us nearly two weeks. Completion is now expected around the end of October.

These new facilities will replace the 50 year-old toilets and change rooms which were built when the Club moved from Fenton Street in the late 1960’s and were well overdue for upgrading. The Devonport Tennis Club has been the recipient of a Major Grant from the Devonport City Council, a Medium Grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund and a Minor Grant from Community Sport and Recreation, totalling $100,000. The Club will provide the balance of the funding.

Over the last 5 years, the DTC has seen a total upgrade of courts, court lighting, fences, access and now club room amenities. The Club will now be well equipped to host tennis tournaments, provide contemporary facilities to its own members and also provide a wonderful facility for other groups and individuals within the local community to hire for special occasions.
