What is Cardio Tennis?

  • Cardio Tennis is a new, fun, group fitness activity featuring drills to give players of all abilities an ultimate, high-energy workout.
  • This includes warm-up, cardio workout, and cool down phases. If you want to find a healthy, new way to get in shape and burn calories, you should try this.
  • Cardio Tennis sessions will give you access to a lot of the same drills you would normally participate in, in a regular adult coaching class, but without the analysis and correction, but rather continual hitting, moving, and activity, rather than the stop and start nature of having grips and swings corrected.
  • Cardio Tennis will allow you to hit significantly more tennis balls per hour than a class, as there are far less stops in play.

What are the major benefits?

  • Participants consistently elevate their heart rates into their aerobic training zone. You can burn more calories than singles or doubles tennis matches. You get short cycles of high intensity workout and periods of rest, almost like interval training. It is a fun, group activity where players of all abilities enjoy tennis together. While you are playing tennis, the primary focus is on getting a great workout.

What happens in Cardio Tennis?

  • Taught by a qualified, insured and professional tennis coach, a typical program runs for an hour and includes a short dynamic warm-up, a cardio workout and a cool down phase. The majority of the program is the workout phase, which should last around 50 minutes to 1 hour. Most of this portion will include fast-paced drills where the professional coach feeds balls to players based on their ability and fitness level.

Does this replace regular lessons / matches?

  • No. Cardio Tennis is the 3rd way to play tennis. This “new form” of tennis just stresses a great workout vs great forehands and backhands. We advise existing players who have regular squad/private lessons or play matches to continue with those activities, as this new program is designed to give you a great workout rather than teach the mechanics of tennis.

Is It Safe?

  • Absolutely. Our goal is to keep all players working out below their maximum heart rate and in their aerobic training zone. Your maximum heart rate is calculated as 220 less your age, and your aerobic training zone is 65% – 85% of your maximum heart rate. We may also play music during your workout because it offers a fun, energising atmosphere.

Improves Cardiovascular Fitness

Cardio Tennis is a great way to improve your cardiovascular fitness. It involves a lot of running, jumping, and quick movements, which can help increase your heart rate and improve your endurance. We use a lot of body weight exercises and training aids all designed to improve your overall workout.

Burns Calories

This type of fitness can be a great way to burn calories. The constant movement and high-intensity exercises can help you burn up to 600 calories in just one hour.

Builds Endurance

The intense nature of Cardio Tennis can help you build endurance. You will be constantly moving and performing high-intensity exercises, which can help you build stamina and increase your ability to sustain physical activity for longer periods of time.

Enhances Agility and Coordination

The fast-paced nature of Cardio Tennis can help improve your agility and coordination. You will be required to move quickly and change directions frequently, which can improve your reflexes and overall coordination. These changes of direction mirror the changes of direction you may have to make in a tennis match, or social hit with friends.

Social Benefits

Cardio Tennis is a great way to meet new people and socialise while getting a good workout. It’s a fun and engaging way to stay active and connect with others who share a similar interest in tennis and fitness.
