Child Safety Policy for Beaumaris Community Centre Tennis Club (BCCTC)

Purpose:

The purpose of this Child Safety Policy is to ensure the protection and well-being of all children participating in activities at BCCTC.  We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all young athletes, focusing on encouragement, positivity, good sportsmanship and club values.

Commitment to Child Safety:

BCCTC is dedicated to the safety of children and recognises that a safe environment is critical for all children whether on or off the courts.  We will share the clubs’ values and promote a culture that prioritises the well-being of children and encourages responsible behaviour among all club members.

Code of Conduct:

All coaches, members and volunteers are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:

  • Treat all children with respect and dignity.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.
  • Avoid situations where children are alone with an adult without the presence of others, whether it be another child or adult.
  • Never engage in any form of bullying, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Offensive language will not be tolerated.

Coaching and Training:

  • All coaches and volunteers working with children must hold a Working with Children Check.
  • Regular information will be sent to all members to ensure all members are aware of their responsibilities regarding child safety.

Reporting Procedures:

  • Any concerns regarding child safety or suspected abuse should be reported immediately to the BCCTC Committee or appropriate authorities.
  • The BCCTC Committee will investigate any reports thoroughly and confidentially, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken.

Supervision and Safety Measures:

  • Children will be always supervised during club activities, including practices, matches, and events. This will be via coaches, parents and appointed team managers.
  • First aid kits will be readily available and will be administrated by the most capable individual present at the time of incident.
  • If it is not a club event, competition or coaching, parents are responsible to supervise their own children when they are on club grounds.

Parent/Guardian Involvement:

  • Parents and guardians are encouraged to be involved in their children’s activities and to communicate any concerns they may have.
  • Regular Committee meetings will be held to discuss child safety issues and policies.
  • Parents are reminded that they are children, please let them play competition and cheer all players and to manage their own disputes on court.  Please help them if they ask for guidance/clarity on rules of the game where needed.

Physical and Emotional Well-being:

  • We will promote physical and emotional well-being throughout all club activities, emphasising the importance of good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for others.
  • Resources for mental health support will be made available to children and families when needed.

Review and Evaluation:

  • This policy will be reviewed annually by the Committee to ensure its effectiveness and relevance.  Feedback from members, coaches, and children will be sought to improve our practices.
  • We take the safety of our members seriously, and please understand the BCCTC Committee is made up of volunteer members, we do our best to provide and uphold our policies and club values.

Conclusion:

Beaumaris Community Centre Tennis Club is committed in providing a safe and positive environment for all children. We believe that through education, awareness, and member involvement, we can create a culture of safety and respect for all.

We encourage all members to step up and speak out when they see something wrong and take appropriate action.
