History

The Athelstone Tennis Club was formed in 1930 from two church teams and it was known as the Roadview Tennis Club and the teams played in the Eastern Districts Tennis Association.  The home courts began behind the old service station on Gorge Road at Athelstone, before the club moved to the Foxfield Oval Courts from 1971/72.

Another move for the club came in 1973/74 when Thorndon High School courts became the home of Athelstone Tennis Club (situated where Charles Campbell College is now).

In 1976/77 the courts were constructed at our current location as part of the Max Amber Sport Field - Range Road at Paradise and the club changed it's name to the Athelstone Tennis Club.

In the first season at our new home, the Div 1 team became premiers, whilst the junior competition commenced in the 1978/79 season.

Struggling to get a club house built, the club survived using beach umbrellas and esky's for cold drinks, while heading to the soccer pitch for drink bottle refils and toilets.

1981 saw the 'old' clubrooms opened and the Athelstone Tennis Club had a home!

1993 saw current club coach Peter Clark, start up his coaching business, which has attracted more and more athletes and continued to build membership numbers at the club.

The club has grown over the years and has produced many premierships, both senior and junior, and some amazing players.

December 2021 saw our new clubrooms opened by Mayor Jill Whittaker and James Stevens MP, Member for Sturt.  The club was lucky to receive funding from the Federal Government, Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing and the Campbelltown City Council to build the new facility.

With our club membership continuing to grow, it is great to have a place for members to gather, have a BBQ, play on the playground and play the sport of tennis!

In 2023 the Athelstone Tennis Club has over 150 members, including 30 Junior Teams,  10 senior teams and 4 midweek ladies teams, and 2 junior players are ranked in the top 3 in Australia for their age group.
