Juniors, Tomorrow's Adults

Juniors are a vital part of any club's longevity.

As a Club we welcome all junior players and want to nurture a LOVE OF ALL THINGS TENNIS in them.

We welcome juniors at our "Saturday Socials", fun days, outing and end of year presentation. When they become young adults we'd love to see them playing in our Night Comp.

Our Illawarra Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association (ISLTA), to which we belong, has a rich history of amazing junior tennis players. 3 of the very well know ones from our Association are:

  • Alex De Minaur "The Demon"

    • Born in Sydney in 1999 and is of Australian nationality. He started playing tennis at Carss Park, Kogarah where he fell in love with our sport. He lives between Spain and Australia. His Mother Estheris of Spainish decent and his is father of Uruguayan descent. Alex is currently ranked in the top 10 as of January 2024.
  • Todd Woodbridge

    • Todd grew up in Wollooware (Cronulla) and played in the Illawarra Suburbs Lawn District Association (ISLTA) competition. The recently introduced Todd Woodbridge Cup, an interschools competition managed by Tennis NSW is named after him.

We are so delighted that Bundeena Public School entered 2 teams into the 2023 Todd Woodbridge Cup this year. We wish them all the very best and hope they have a fabulous time playing as a team for their school.

All matches are in a doubles format, which is very fitting as Todd Woodbridge won so many Doubles Grand Slams with Mark Woodford.

  • Each team consists of 5 boys & 5 girls .
  • stage 2 are children from years 3 & 4 will play 23.8.23
  • stage children are from years 5 & 6  will play 30.8.23
  • Both days will be played on  the Association courts at Rockdale
  • If you would like to participate its not too late for next year, so let the school know you are interested.

Some of the children are pictured below.

The Todd Woodbridge Cup ended up being a tennis taster for the school as other competing schools withdrew.

iI was a great afternoon watching everyone particpate in tennis at Bundeena Tennis Courts, and all were happy to be there. 8 children were given Tennis NSW Todd Woodbridge awards for sportsmaship and consistant effort.

  • Ken Rosewall "Muscles"

    • Ken grew up in South Hurstville. The "Ken Rosewall Arena" at Sydney Olympic Park is named after him. Pictured below are our children with Ken Rosewell, and our children watching from tennis at the Ken Rosewall Arena. There is also a tennis centre at Peakhurst named after Ken.

Our tennis coach, Adrienne was presented with a certificate at the NSW tennis centre in Sydney Olympic Park for her passion in providing children with the opportunity to be involved in all things tennis not just coaching. Adrienne's passion is to see these children enjoy their tennis well into their later years as she does too. As Adirene would say,  "Tennis is the game for life!"
