Wesley Tennis Club’s much loved and respected life member, Yvonne Scales, passed away recently at the age of 98.  She first had joined the tennis club with her late husband Derek (who also became a life member of the club) when they moved to Canberra in 1962 and eventually became easily the longest-serving member of the club.  Our Club History page includes a few words from her recollections of those early days.

She played tennis with us well into her nineties, finally hanging up her racquet at 94, and even after that, she retained a keen interest in what the club and its members were doing.  She certainly embodied the message that tennis is a game people can enjoy at any age.

Yvonne made a major contribution to tennis at Wesley (and to the many other things with which she was involved) and will be very much missed by all those who knew her.

She was an inspiration to us all.
