How to care for WTC clay courts
Werribee Tennis Club has the best Clay courts in the western suburbs.
Simple care ensures the courts remain open all year round. If courts require maintainence, it means they will be closed for repair and resting. Also if extra maintance is required, memberships prices will need to increase to cover cost.
Some simple care tips
1. Water entire court from fence to net before and after each set. Concentrate heavy play areas like in front and behind baselines. If courts are played on dry, holes will form.
2. Use the heavy baggers before and after each set. Walk from fence to net till all court is covered. This will ensure any micro holes are filled and even coverage.
3. Wear tennis shoes. Cross trainers are a no go because the sole is too aggressive and will tear holes. See here for handy guide when purchasing shoes https://www.memrlta.org.au/correct-footwear
4. Do not play on the courts if they are soaked from rain. It is very easy to tear holes in the courts if they are wet. Very difficult to fix tears in clay courts.
5. Sweeping lines. Use soft long strokes to sweep lines. This ensures no piles of sand are created.
6. Do not use the heavy baggers to pickup tennis balls. The baggers can cause damage to courts if used this way.
