International Day for People with Disability - Saturday 3rd December 2022

The club is planning another day "Come & Try" and tennis clinic for people with disability to recognise International Day for People with Disability on Saturday 3rd December.

We encourage club members, people with a disability and the community generally to come down to the club and participate in learning about and parrticipating in tennos clinics with people with disability.

More details to come, but this is a part of the club's inclusion and diversity program.

International Day for People with Disability - Saturday 3rd December 2022

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended our function in support of International Day for People with Disability.

We would like to thank Sally Schwartz, a former World No. 3 Junior Wheelchair player, for sharing her tennis journey, answering questions and spending some court time with our players. Sally is an inspiration and great ambassador for wheelchair tennis.

A big thanks to Tennis Victoria for making wheel chairs available for our players to use as we break down the barriers.

International Day for People with Disability - Saturday 4th December 2021

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended our function in support of International Day for People with Disability.

It was AMAZING.... exceeding our expectations...

Penny from Sport4All presented details of the Sport4All program, we received a special message from Heath Davison (Gold & Silver Paralympic medalist), we had some tears, a visit from Ascot (a trainee guide dog), tennis experienced from a different perspective, and words from members with a disability.

If anyone would like to know more about Sport4All clickhere

We would like to thank Penny from Sport4All, our small Sport4All committee - Fotene, Ivana & Victor, James on the BBQ, and Luca & Em from Tennis Victoria who sourced wheel chairs and special balls enabling a Wheel Chair and Blind tennis experience for those attending.

The Coburg Tennis Club is proud to be participating in the Sport4All program and working with Penelope - Sport4All program Coordinator and Inclusion Officer for Moreland, with the aim to continue learning, improving and growing in the Inclusion and Accessibility Space.

Playing sport is not a privilege but a right for every Australian,  including the 4.5 million people or 20% of the Australian population with either a physical or cognitive disability and, like most Australians, love sport and being involved in the community through sport.

Sport4All has identified the significant gap in the understanding and capability of sporting clubs and schools to include people with disability effectively in sport not because they don’t want to, but they don’t always know how to.

Sport4All is an inclusive Sporting Program that assists Sports clubs and Schools to be more accessible and inclusive, and enable people with disability to have choice and control over where and how they would like to participate in sport. This program was designed by Get Skilled Access, founded by Dylan Alcott and is funded by the Australian Government. It is also supported by the AFL, Tennis Australia, Table Tennis Australia, Golf Australia, Paralympics Australia, Special Olympics, Blind Sports Australia, Deaf Sports Australia and ACHPER.
