Canberra Tennis League

This is your chance to represent the Ainslie Tennis Club and take on other clubs across the ACT.

Canberra Tennis League (CTL) is an interclub team-based competition. Both adult and junior leagues take place throughout the year. For more information on Canberra Tennis League competitions and season dates, please visit the  Tennis ACT Website.

Ainslie also has a Tennis Leagues Participation Policy, which captures the adult and junior leagues' selection and team entry process.  It can be accessed here.

The Walking Clinic Adult Canberra Tennis League

The adult Canberra Tennis League competitions supported by The Walking Clinic run year-round, providing both competitive and social offerings for all levels of players across the ACT and region. Three leagues run each season: Monday and Tuesday night, doubles on Thursday night, and singles on Saturday afternoon. All Canberra Tennis League Adult offerings are team-based and unisex.

To see upcoming leagues, including dates, formats, and how to enter them, please visit the Tennis ACT website.

Ainslie's adult teams have been increasing in the last few years! Adding a second competition night each week helps field these additional teams. Many Ainslie teams have played in pennant competitions since the Club was opened in 1928. Many have celebrated wins and added to the Club's collection of pennants, which in 2020 were estimated to be around 117.  A future history project for the Club will endeavour to produce a history of the Club's Pennant participation.

ADULT CLUB COMPETITION FEES

Our club charges a fee per player for the 10-week season, which is calculated to cover the Club’s cost to enter a team in a particular competition. Each player must deposit their fee(s) directly into the Club’s bank account.  The Club’s League Coordinator uses Club Newsletters to provide details of upcoming competitions before the start of each competition.  Interested players are advised of the competition details and costs. Selected players are advised of their team arrangements and provided with the Club’s bank details for their fee payments.

All Ainslie teams are subject to the approval of the Club League Coordinator. This enables the Club to balance the number of teams entered with court availability for both teams and court use by other members. The latter is particularly relevant for the timing of weekend competitions.

The Walking Clinic Junior Canberra Tennis League

The Yellow and Green Ball Leagues allow players to represent their club as part of a team. Run twice per year, the Junior Canberra Tennis League take place on Sunday mornings in the Autumn and Spring seasons.  Players can make themselves available for the whole competition or join as a reserve.

To see upcoming leagues, including dates, formats, and how to enter, please visit the Tennis ACT Website.

JUNIOR CLUB COMPETITION FEES

As with the Adult League, the Junior League Coordinator advertises upcoming Junior competitions in the Club’s Newsletters. Juniors selected will be placed in a team with an adult coordinator, and each team will be charged a fee based on full cost recovery. The team fee covers entry to the competition, court hire and balls.  This fee is required to be paid to the Club by the team coordinator in accordance with instructions circulated by the Junior League Coordinator before the competition commences.

Junior pennant tennis has had a renaissance since 2018, and one of our junior teams won a pennant in 2019.   The next challenge for the Club is to maximise the number of junior pennant teams, noting that Junior Pennant is played on Sunday mornings only, and the club is limited to one match at a time as we only have three courts.

Pennant FAQs:

I'm new to Pennant and unsure what Division I should nominate for.

That's okay—we cater to everyone and all standards. Talk to the Pennant Coordinator, and we can determine what works best for you.

I can't commit to a whole season, but I still want to play. Is that ok?

Yes, we are always in need of reserves and would love to have anyone on board who would like to play.

When does the pennant season begin?

For adults, Tennis ACT runs competitions commencing at the beginning of each season, with nominations open in the months leading up to it.

I want to play in a team with my friends, but we have different standards—can we do that?

Sure - we want to make sure all of our players are comfortable with their teams and just want people to have fun; it may take a season or 2 of playing to find the right division for you all.

When can I sign up?

Contact our pennant coordinator anytime to register your interest. Should you register mid-season, we can add you to the reserve lists and then let you know when the next season is starting to get you into a team.

Do I need to be a member to play Pennant?

Yes, as per Tennis ACT rules and regulations, players who are not members of an affiliated club are not eligible to play pennant.
