Events

Of recent times the Club has picked up a gear and is now actively pursuing ways to improve the overall experience of belonging to a friendly and vibrant Tennis Club. There is a fresh approach afoot which is seeing us open up to new and exciting possibilities for the benefit of all members.

THE TINY TOWNS TENNIS TOURNAMENT:
Only in to its  third year but already one of the most popular sporting events on the local calendar, the Tiny Towns Tennis Tournament involves teams from a number of the smaller town Tennis Clubs of our region coming together to compete for prizes and trophies.

Founded by Darryl “Daz” Gauld of Team Rainbow Beach fame and hosted by the Tin Can Bay Tennis Club at our Whiting Street courts, the Tournament attracts large numbers of spectators keen to see some exciting live tennis action and cheer on their favourite team.

The Tournament has a decidedly festival feel to it and is all about the fun, comradery and inclusiveness of the sport of tennis. It has shown to help develop friendly associations with players from other small and remote Tennis Clubs who would not normally be involved in a typical Tennis Tournament. But it is a Tennis Tournament nonetheless, so make no mistake, Tennis Club teams are pretty serious about doing their best to take home the trophies!

The 2022 Final of the Men’s Doubles was a very close affair. Towards the end it seemed neither side was prepared to go for their shots and risk anything so there was some overly cautious playing in the tie-breaker …

INTERCLUB PLAYING DAYS:
From time to time the Club will organise a tennis playing day visit to other Clubs in our area. These are not competitions but rather social tennis playing get-together events that help establish friendly bonds among tennis players from other Clubs.

The last such interclub visit was with our friends of the Poona Tennis Club who put on a wonderful day for us and pampered us with a sumptious lunch spread. We of course reciprocated with Poona coming to TIn Can Bay a few months later to experience the same friendly small-town hospitality from us.

Here’s a little video of our visit to the Poona Tennis Club …

BALL MACHINE DAYS:
From time to time the Club will hold a 'Ball Machine Day' for Club members. This event is highly popular with members and will usually include a sausage sizzle or light lunch for everyone.

At this very moment a Ball Machine Day is not possible due to the large grain sand issue. However, much finer smooth grain sand is being organised by the Committee and it won't be long before the Club can once again hold this very benefical and enjoyable day for members.

Here is a little video of one of those Ball Machine Days from 2021:

As Covid hit we were required to put in place some strict Tennis Australia and Queensland Health rules to minimise risk. The ball machine seemed a solution that enabled players to enjoy court time whilst still following the rules. I did this fun little movie to let players know that while Covid is a very unpleasant time, it’s not the end of the world …

SAUSAGE SIZZLES, BIRTHDAYS & GET TOGETHER'S:
From time to time Club members may take matters in to their own hands and organise an event usually always for a good cause but sometimes for their own twisted entertainment. This can be for a birthday, an after meeting get-together, a night out, a spin the bottle party or just for the heck of it.

The Tin Can Bay Tennis Club usually always gets on-board with these events and supports them wholeheartedly. If a major event and held at the courts the Club will usually consider waiving playing fees making it a free tennis playing day or night.

CHRISTMAS PARTY:
There is always a Christmas party at the end of the year for all members. The location and type of Christmas party is usually determined by the members themselves.

For Christmas 2023 the current popular suggestion is to hold it at the Tin Can Bay Tennis Club where members can also enjoy a free day of tennis.

Donations will be taken to purchase a nice pair of tennis shorts for our President as a Chrissie present. Come to think of it, that football jersey of his needs to go too ... and what's the story with those damn slippers he wears?!?!
