HISTORY OF WTC
Wauchope Tennis Club, previously Wauchope Timbertown Tennis Club, has been a second home to many Locals for many years, with a sporting history that spans generations.
The original 1955 Club House still stands within walking distance to the township of Wauchope, adjacent to the river. Within it’s walls holds the iconic wood Club Championship board. On it is inscribed legends from 1964 such as Brooker, Mozeley, Greenaway and Trotter.
The Club saw a milestone in 2024 with the Club Championships back on the program - 40years on. This time PICKLEALL was an inclusion and togetehr with Tennis made for a great atmosphere.

To offer the championships last year and see increase in memberships at Wauchope Tennis Club week by week is not by chance.
Tennis has seen a revival - with Tennis Australia reporting over a million court bookings this past year around Australia. Nationally there are more Hot Shots Programs and Coaches than ever before and Cardio Tennis is on the rise. It is wonderful to see clubs offering more, particularly for youngsters and their families – and Wauchope Tennis Club is no different.
Wauchope Tennis Club was successful in obtaining a NSW Government Grant to develop the unutilised courts on site and convert to Hot Shot Courts. This was completed just over 12 months ago. The complex now has Seven (7) Tennis Courts and Three (3) Pickleball/Hot Shots Courts with new lighting and disability access to both areas.
The new courts are multipurpose and currently being used for Pickleball and school sporting programs. Pickleball has ‘taken off’ with the club having a full calendar including Junior and private coaching, social sessions and tournaments. A ‘sea of pink’ shirts is what you may see when driving by the club on Pickleball Tournament days – a colour chosen to stand out in the crowd and on the blue courts.
The Club has finalised their Strategic Plan in 2024 with renewed values and purpose. New members and Committee Roles have been rimplemented with a focus on building membership and participation across Tennis and Pickleball – and one day enough members and money to support application for a new club house.
2024 also saw the establishment of a Coach Lease Agreement with the newly formed Wauchope All Sports, with Head Pickleball Coach Aaron Johnson and experienced Tennis Coach Greg Alchin driving the program.
This agreement allows more specialised coaching for both Tennis and Pickleball and new program opportunities such as the Tennis Australia’s Hot Shots Programs, Multisport, and Cardio Tennis. Having traditional and new program offerings keeps the Members coming, the atmosphere lively and the Wauchope Tennis Club open for business.
The Club is hoping to have more schools on board – offering dynamic group options with qualified coaches, targeting all ages and abilities. The club has already seen an increase in home schooling uptake and school holiday bookings.
As the site can hold large groups it is ideal for corporate and team building days. Having a health and lifestyle component is great for groups. Tennis and Pickleball making corporate days even more fun.
