History of the Taroona Tennis Club

Since its inception in 1959, the Taroona Tennis Club has progressed with the untiring efforts of committees and club volunteers to create what is one of the most respected tennis clubs in Tasmania.

Work was carried out to upgrade the en-tout-cas courts in 1970s and 1980s and the installation of lighting on Courts Nos 1, 2 & 3 between 1975 and 1980, the expansion from three to four courts in 1982, and their conversion to synthetic grass by 1999.

The development of club facilities could not have been achieved without dedicated members and the strong support of the Kingborough Council.

The Taroona Tennis Club celebrated it’s 50th year in 2009 and to help commemorate this occasion there was a book written by Bill Cromer (club life member) with the help of other club members past and present. It is a must for anyone that has been involved in the Taroona Tennis Club. There are still copies of the book available and can be purchased from the Clubhouse.
