Celebrating 100 Years

There has been a Springwood Tennis Club in existence in various shapes and forms dating back to 1894 where the Springwood Lawn Tennis Club played off land adjoining the playground of the public school. In August 1922, The Blue Mountains Echo reported that at the annual meeting of the Springwood Lawn Tennis Club, Mr Geoffrey Richardson had been elected President with a Committee of 10 members. At Silva Rd / George St intersection two courts were built and a third court was added in 1929., these courts remained the home for the Club for 43 years until the land was resumed for the Great Western Highway by-pass of Springwood. In conjunction with the BMCC, four courts were constructed and opened in 1966 at Buttenshaw Park. In 1975, a steering committee was formed, the key members being Vic Barton, John Corbin & Ted Withers who campaigned for a larger complex to provide for the ever-growing tennis playing community of the Blue Mountains. The Spring Street Tennis Centre, where we stand today, was officially opened in 1982 with the Clubhouse and 10 loam courts.  The centre now boast 12 synthetic grass courts (11 floodlit) see Drone View of the Club
