It was yet another great win for our Reid Tennis Club Division 7 team in the recent Canberra Tennis League Spring Competition.
I was the captain with Mark Ciampa and Fabrizio Magrini. Mark and Fabrizio had never played in a competitive league before, and Fabrizio only recently moved to Australia. This made the victory sweeter and I enjoyed the red wine review of our performance following each match.
We went through a tightly contested Spring Competition rounds finishing on top of the ladder. This was achieved even though we had a very disruptive season due to personal circumstances and unavailability of players. As Captain of the team, I’m very proud of our achievement and as it was a fantastic effort to finish on top of the ladder.
Our Grand Final was against Forrest Tennis Club, what a match it was! Great tennis was played by both teams in a respectful and competitive manner. After Mark and I lost both our singles, Fabrizio kept his nerve to win his singles and combining to win the doubles rubbers through some strategic game planning — Reid took out the Grand Final 4-2.
We really enjoyed the Spring Competition participating in terrific tennis, having lots of fun and meeting keen players from all over Canberra. I recommend getting involved in the league competitions. There is a level for everyone, and it is a great way to meet some amazing players.
I would also like to thank Reid Tennis Club for their support. It is a pleasure playing for Reid, the tennis courts are really some of the best in Canberra.
See you on the court…
Tony Ciampa
