The second season of the immensely popular Point Cook Tennis Club (PCTC) Social Tennis was recently concluded. A Grand Final round was held on 25th July 2024. Our very own Scott came out as the 1st winner, followed by Dan, Humza and Sujoy. Although it may not be as lucrative as Grand Slam prize monies, the winners were rewarded with some modest-but-attractive prizes. This follows the first season's Grand Final held in January earlier this year, which had Vince as the 1st winner, followed by Jordan, Dan and Sujoy.
The PCTC Social Tennis runs on a biannual-season cycle. To make it more fun and engaging, the Social Tennis has been organised in a semi-competitive format where player's scores are recorded in a ladder. There are small monthly prizes to be won for the top players of the monthly ladder, as well as, more recently, some special prizes for the top female players in order to encourage and promote more diversity. At the end season, players at the top of the ladder are invited to participate in a Grand Final round which decides the season's ultimate winners.
The Social Tennis has been a massive hit with very large involvement not only from members, but also from the wider community. There have been upwards of 150 different players participating in the PCTC Social Tennis since its inception in the second half of 2023. Due to its popularity, PCTC Social Tennis has been expanded to 2 sessions each week - i.e. the main session on Thursday 7pm, and another session on Friday 7pm focused on juniors and beginner players.
Everyone, whether member or non-member, is welcome to participate in the PCTC Social Tennis. Please email us on pctennisclub@gmail.com if you want to get more information.
