About Us

In the beginning of 1985, North Ringwood Tennis Club notified the then Ringwood Council that they had reached their capacity and closed their membership. They suggested that the Council should consider forming another tennis club in the area. The Council acted on this suggestion and purchased five acres of private land adjacent to Quambee Reserve, which was being established as a sporting complex, with the aim of creating Parkwood Tennis Club.

Towards the end of 1985, the Ringwood Council approached Mr Eddie Nissner and Mr Frank Saliba, who were foundation members, to help form a new tennis club on the newly purchased land. The council agreed to fund one-third of the cost to build four initial tennis courts, on the condition that the new club could raise the remaining one-third share.

A public meeting was held, and 25 prospective members agreed to pay $500.00 each to become foundation members. Mr Eddie Nissner became the first president of the club, and with the funds raised, work on the four new courts commenced. The four courts were completed within the budgeted cost in August 1986. Although the council had offered the use of a temporary clubhouse, this did not eventuate, and Mr Wally Percy of Qanstruct donated a new builder's shed for temporary use.

The council then offered another grant of to build a new clubhouse, which was completed in October 1987. The club contributed $13,000 as in-kind labor, and an additional grant of $6,000 under the same scheme enabled the club to install floodlights on the four courts concurrently with the building of the clubhouse.

In 1989, Mr Brenton Martin was elected club president, and with his guidance, the club achieved a further grant of $37,000 from the Ringwood Council, which allowed them to build another two courts. In 1992, the club completed an extension to the clubhouse and started the construction of another two courts with the help of another grant from the council.

From 1992 to the present day, the club has completed the construction of four more courts, with the most recent two completed in 2004. They have also installed court lighting on all 12 courts.
