The majority of the works for the refurbishment of Courts 7-8 are now complete and these courts are open for limited use from Monday the 7th October. There are a few things that still to be done this week including:
- Installation of gates at each end
- final cleanup & removal of temporary fence
The new surface will take a while to settle in, and will likely play differently in the short term (as is expected of new courts). We have been advised the courts need to be bagged fence to fence regularly so please ensure this happen every 1.5 hours in line with casual bookings or at the completion of competition.
The total cost of these works including lights, fencing and retaining walls was approx. $207,000. We were fortunate to have received a grant of $75,000 from the Victorian Government’s North East Community Fund to help with this.
Also, the brick retaining walls at the north end of Courts 3-6 have been replaced with concrete sleepers. A few problems were encountered with the sub-surface and some of these will need to be re-done over the next few weeks.
