Mount Beauty Tennis Club Community Statement
We are deeply saddened by the circumstances surrounding this situation and our thoughts are with the children and families affected.
The safety and wellbeing of our community - especially our young people - remains our highest priority. We understand that many families may feel shocked, frustrated, or angry. Please be assured that the individual did not return to the club after the club became aware of the allegations. The club has fully co-operated with the authorities and followed their direction throughout the investigation.
The club committee was informed of the conviction at the same time as the broader public, through media reporting. We acknowledge the distress this may have caused and are committed to supporting our community through this difficult time.
If you have questions or concerns regarding this matter or the legal process, we encourage you to contact Wangaratta Police or the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT). They can be contacted on: (03) 5723 0893
Tennis Australia, Tennis Victoria and the clubs involved are committed to providing support to anyone affected. This includes access to counselling services, safeguarding resources, and ongoing education for coaches, staff, and volunteers. Confidential counselling services can be accessed via Tennis’ Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with Converge. Please contact Converge and state your association with Tennis. Website: Employee Assistance Program Call: 1300 687 327. We also encourage impacted individuals to discuss with their local doctor or GP if requiring further support.
Safeguarding children and all participants in our sport is Tennis Australia and Tennis Victoria’s highest priority. All accredited coaches are required to hold valid Working With Children Checks and National Police Checks. These requirements were in place prior to this incident and continue to be enforced.
Tennis Integrity teams also provide education and resources to help clubs and coaches identify concerning behaviours and understand how to report them. Screening is just one part of a broader commitment to child safety.
We remain dedicated to continuous improvement in safeguarding and welcome collaboration with experts and the community to ensure tennis remains a safe, inclusive, and trusted sport for all in our community.

The Australian Tennis Open Memorial Cups, also known as Daphne and Norman, are named after two Australian Tennis Players Daphne Akhurst who won the women’s singles title at the Australian Championship five times between 1925 and 1930 and Norman Brookes a former Grand Slam Champion, winning at Wimbledon in 1907 and 1914 and the Australasian Championship in 1911.
Mount Beauty Tennis Club is on the edge of a lake just a short walk from the town centre. We are at the foot of the Victorian Alps, a 3/4 hour drive from Falls Creek Ski Resort and have stunning views of Victoria's highest mountain, Mount Bogong (1,986m).
We have four synthetic grass courts, court hire available, club membership options, a clubhouse with full amenities and a club coach, and we are very close to shops, schools, playgrounds, walking/cycling tracks, and other sporting venues and activities.
We have social mixed tennis for the over 50's each Tuesday and Friday mornings and ladies Thursday mornings throughout the year, spring and autumn Wednesday night competitions and we enter teams in the local summer pennant competition. We have Club Championships in April each year.
