Section 2 runners-up L to R: Ashlee Priester, Zoe Magnezi, Liam Shapiro and Shei Isaacs.

Maccabi's Section 2 girls were narrowly defeated in their Grand Final against Beaumaris on Saturday morning.  The young Maccabi team of Liam ShapiroShei Isaacs, Ashlee Priester and Zoe Magnezi were gallant in defeat, marking an impressive rise that has seen most of the team progress together through the ranks, starting in Section 8 and now winning their way to the Grand Final in Section 2.  These girls are highly talented and are expected to make the transition to women's tennis in the coming years.

Section 2 Grand Final:

Beaumaris 3-27 def Maccabi 2-23

Liam Shapiro 0-6

Shei Isaacs 3-6

Ashlee Priester 6-4

Zoe Magnezi 6-4

Shapiro/Isaacs 2-6

Priester/Magnezi 6-1

The girls had moved up from Section 4 to Section 2 this season and performed extremely well throughout the season finishing in 3rd place on the ladder after the home and away matches.

They won the semi-final by 2 games on the last singles rubber. They continued their good form in the Preliminary Final winning they way into their third consecutive Grand Final. They tried extremely hard and after being beaten well against BLTC in the home and away took the Grand Final down to the wire. Both teams won three sets with BLTC coming out on top by just three games.

Extremely proud of the team and I am sure they will continue to do Maccabi Tennis Club proud for the next few seasons.
