The Lauriston Lawn Tennis Club is an eight court community tennis club in the suburb of Carnegie, at the western end of the Rosanna Street Reserve. The club commenced in 1927, and will celebreate its centenary in 2027.
Lauriston began in a location on Kangaroo Road , west of Poath Road. The eight asphalt courts were located behind the Hughesdale Dairy and lasted from 1927 to 1947.
In 1947, Lauriston moved from the Kangaroo Road site to Dalny Road. Lauriston shared the Dalny Road courts with the Beauville Tennis Club. Beauville had courts numbered 1 & 2 and Lauriston had courts 3 to 6. The clubhouse was shared between both clubs.
In 1955, Lauriston moved from the Dalny Road site to the current Rosanna Street site. Prior to construction of the courts members had to clear the blueberries from the site.
In May 2000, the clubhouse and its contents were destroyed by a fire and 18 months later a new modern clubouse was opened. Over the years members have funded significant improvements to the courts inlcuding lights to courts 5 - 8, sprinkler and water conservation systems, windbreaks and sunsafe sails.
Club legend, Rex Hartwig, captained the club's A Grade men's Pennant Premiership in 1950 & 1952 prior to turning professional where he was runner up in the Australian Open and US Open in 1954 and won four grand slam men's doubles titles, two grand slam mixed doubles titles and was part of the Australian Davis Cup victories in 1953 and 1955.
Lauriston is proud of its hstory that supports elite players through to social tennis and the development of junior players.
